Job Description

Under general supervision performs a variety of non-sworn and law enforcement support functions providing a wide range of services to the public and police department. This hybrid position will perform a variety of technical crime scene processing skills (i.e. CSI) while assisting investigating officers with identifying collecting and securing evidence physical and digital and properly preserving and securing the evidence for further investigation and/or presentation in court while maintaining the chain of custody throughout the process. This position will also perform detailed research and analysis of criminal intelligence information and operational intelligence work (i.e. criminal analyst) to support investigators and determines source reliability content validity and distinguishes patterns and trends.

The role collects analyzes provides and/or presents evidence and data for strategic tactical and administrative use for the prevention and suppression of criminal activities for aiding the investigative process and for the efficient operation of the department. These responsibilities do not require police officer certification but the incumbent may be required to maintain multiple advanced skills certifications and professional credentialing. This is a non-sworn position working under the direction of a Division Commander or designee.

This is a hybrid technical position between criminal analyst and crime scene investigations and will require participation in an on-call rotation.

Criminal Intelligence and Digital Forensic Analyst

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Completion or equivalent of an Associates degree from an accredited college or technical school certificate and the equivalent of three years of experience in property / evidence handling crime scene investigations forensics digital forensics photography law enforcement data collection and analysis or related field;

Or

  • Completion or equivalent of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university program and the equivalent of two years of experience in property / evidence handling crime scene investigations forensics digital forensics photography law enforcement data collection and analysis or related field;

Or

  • Any equivalent combination of education training and professional experience to include documented military experience or work history within STEM (science technology engineering math) fields which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Shall be able to obtain and maintain any required NCIC CSI forensic digital forensics analytics or other specialty skills certifications relevant to the position description as determined by the Department.

Candidates must undergo background investigation and screening and pre-employment drug screen.
