(Part-Time Temporary Afternoon)
About the Organization:
HandsOn Suburban Chicago (HOSC) mobilizes people to lend their time talents and voices to increase the capacity of nonprofits and schools and drive change in 44 suburban communities. HOSC refers volunteers to 100 community partners and harnesses the power of volunteerism to benefit at-risk students enable vulnerable populations to age in their homes and improve communities by providing critical resources to high-needs populations. HOSC partners with nonprofits schools and government bodies providing services to underserved populations including victims of violence the disabled veterans seniors youth and those needing food shelter mental health services and other vital assistance.

Position Summary:
The Site Coordinator serves as a liaison between HOSC and school sites to create an environment where volunteers and students can connect and grow. The position is responsible for the daily operation of the afterschool program at the assigned school sites including attendance tracking maintaining school-based relationships with administrators and teachers instructing daily programs overseeing classroom management and implementing lesson plans to keep students engaged.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and facilitate afterschool enrichment programming for 4-8th grade learners at designated school sites.
  • Provide day-to-day oversight of programs.
  • Deliver program curriculum and collaborate with external enrichment partners.
  • Support volunteer connections with students.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent documentation of program activity including daily reports volunteer attendance and student attendance.
  • Check email daily to ensure program updates and communications are reviewed and responded to promptly.
  • Maintain a clear and consistent line of communication between HOSC and school site staff partners volunteers parents and other stakeholders.
  • Manage the end-of-session celebrations.
  • Promote and model social-emotional learning competencies and positive behavior norms.
  • Monitor student behavior on site during program hours and utilize appropriate discipline measures as necessary (training provided).
  • Maintain student participation and attendance throughout the year via recruitment and retention activities including student voice and choice engagement strategies.
  • Distribute and collect forms surveys assessments and other documents as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and workshops as scheduled.
  • Uphold safety procedures and adhere to public health guidelines.
  • Other duties related to program operations as required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in education social work or related field preferred or equivalent life and work experience.
  • Experience working with elementary or middle school-aged children.
  • Experience coordinating programming for children and youth preferred.
  • Familiarity with youth development principles.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff parents community partners and other stakeholders.
  • Skilled in data tracking record keeping writing reports and maintaining student and staff records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others.
  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
  • Drivers License Required.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Bilingual in Spanish Russian or Ukrainian preferred.
Temporary Afternoon Position:
  • September 16 2024 May 15 2025
  • Monday Thursdays: Onsite: 2:30-5 pm
  • Planning time and weekly team meeting: 2 hours per week
  • Site Coordinators must attend training sessions before the start of each program semester (September and January) and regular weekly team meetings.
  • School Site Locations: Community Consolidated School District 21 Wheeling
Physical Factors: Ability to travel to sites and to work on a computer for multiple hours.
Working conditions: Collaborative hybrid work environment. The position requires onsite attendance.
Compensation: $16-18/per hour.

Primary Focus Areas:
  • Civic Engagement: HOSC enriches volunteer experiences through its 24/7 searchable user-friendly database outreach and education enabling volunteers to be matched with opportunities that best fit their interests schedules and location.
  • Capacity Building: HOSC builds capacity for 100 nonprofits schools and government organizations that provide vital services to the community and underserved populations including victims of violence the specially-abled veterans seniors youth and those in need of food shelter mental health services and other vital assistance. to successfully match them with volunteers far beyond what their budgets would typically allow.
  • Seniors: HOSC engages those 55 and better to serve in the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program as community resources and pairs them with organizations people and programs to help them successfully age in place by assisting with meal delivery provide transportation to medical appointments offer financial literacy through tax-aide to low-income individuals and make an impact serving organizations people and programs that need their vital assistance.
  • Education: HOSC School Programs provide equitable opportunities for low-income high-risk elementary and middle school students to succeed in high school many of whom have limited English proficiency and receive special education. The Programs improve the grades attendance and the social and emotional well-being of students by addressing student and family needs holistically with an integrated multi-tier system of support combining tutoring mentoring behavioral health services and case management in collaboration with community partners.
