Job Description

Parent & Family Orientation Engagement (60%)
  • Develop and oversee the Freshman parent and guest Orientation schedule including check-in guest/family information sessions and materials.
  • Maintain our KU Family Connection Platform including user management and system training.
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners to create content and communications that support Parent and Families through their Orientation experience.
  • Develop and maintain a Parent & Guest online course in collaboration with the Online Orientation Coordinator.
  • Work with the Communication Specialist to develop and maintain a holistic Orientation Parent & Guest communication plan.
  • Collaborate with the Transfer Orientation Coordinator to develop Parent & Guest support for new Transfer students.
Other Orientation Support (30%)
  • Provide programmatic support for Freshman Orientation.
  • Participate in the selection and training of Orientation Assistants.
  • Provide campus-wide training sessions for campus partners related to OTP events and programs.
  • Participate in outreach activities for the Center for Orientation and Transition Programs including prospective student recruitment events.
  • Moderate and present during Freshman Orientation sessions as needed.
  • Assist the OTP front desk team as needed.
Other Transition Programs Support (10%)
  • Assist in the execution of Hawk Week the University of Kansas Official Welcome Week program.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of additional transition programs hosted by the Center for Orientation and Transition Programs including but not limited to Winter Welcome Week Late Night Breakfast and more.

  1. Bachelors Degree and one (1) year of related experience. Experience may be used to substitute for the education to total four (4) years and is in addition to the required one (1) year experience.

  2. Direct experience with orientation and transition programs as shown in application materials.
  3. Prior work experience that required multi-tasking and managing projects on a tight deadline as evidenced in application materials.
  4. Experience public speaking as shown in application materials.


Position Overview
The Center for Orientation and Transition Programs (OTP) is responsible for providing orientation
onboarding and programs to aid in student transition at the University of Kansas. OTP is a unit within
Academic Success a division of Academic Affairs.

The Parent Orientation Coordinator will support the planning execution and assessment of programs
and experience of the parents and families of new incoming students as they go through Freshman and
Transfer Orientation at the University of Kansas. The Parent Orientation Coordinator will work
collaboratively with the Orientation & Transition Programs team to create robust intentional and
inclusive programs for parents and families both in-person and virtually. The ideal candidate will possess
experience in program planning organization and execution the ability to work collaboratively and the
excitement to curate Orientation experiences for new students and their guests.
