Description

The Department of Visual Arts & Media at the University of Mount Union is seeking an experienced and passionate Adjunct Sport Media Instructor for the next academic year. We are looking for someone with a strong background in sport media journalism research and production who can effectively teach students how to analyze critique and create impactful sports content. We welcome a partnership with a Professional in Residence who is currently working in the field.


This is a part-time non-tenured position with two courses offered in the fall and two in the spring. The ideal candidate would be able to commit to both semesters. Adjunct faculty will work primarily under the direction of the Chair of the Department of Visual Arts & Media.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on instruction in sport media production including live broadcasts multimedia content creation and reporting
  • Mentor and advise students on career paths and professional development in sport media
  • Stay current with industry trends technology and emerging platforms
  • Create a dynamic and supportive classroom environment
  • Assess and evaluate student performance providing constructive feedback
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance the sport media curriculum and community engagement
  • Promote ethical and responsible journalism and media practices
  • Provide instruction in accordance with University and Departmental policies
  • Maintain office hours and communicate with students on an ongoing basis
  • Maintain accurate electronic records as per university requirements
  • Participate in training and technologies as necessary to facilitate course delivery
  • Complete assigned compliance training as communicated by the University

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree with extensive experience in Sport Media Broadcast Journalism Communication or a related field (Masters preferred)
  • Professional experience in sport media production broadcasting or journalism
  • Strong technical skills in live event production video editing and audio engineering
  • Ability to effectively teach both theory and practical skills
  • Excellent communication and mentorship skills

  • Introduction to Sport Media (fall)
  • Sport Media Production (fall)
  • Sport Journalism in the Information Age (spring)
  • Sport Media Research & Analysis (spring)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and experience with Learning Management Systems (specifically D2L Brightspace)
  • Previous teaching experience
