Wilson College is seeking an enthusiastic individual for the position of Circulation Services Technician. This role involves providing circulation and reference assistance to library users as well as actively participating in the hiring training and supervision of student employees. The technician will collaborate closely with library staff to address challenges plan actions and ensure excellent service. Additionally the position includes overseeing library operations during designated evening and weekend hours. The technician will also be responsible for managing a large-format printer to produce high-quality print jobs for the college requiring strong technical skills attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Circulate library materials through the librarys automated system KOHA and thoroughly train new student workers to use the system. Accurately update and add patron records to the system. Implement collection control procedures through training and supervising shelving shelf reading and shifting.
  • Responsible for the general supervision of the Learning Commons as well as collecting and maintaining people-counter data and space usage.
  • Actively assist in the hiring and scheduling of student employees and the preparation and revision of library training materials including manuals of policies and procedures.
  • Engage with and be a workplace coach to student employees including setting expectations clarifying work communicating and delegating tasks and recognition.
  • Under the supervision of the library staff may: create reports using KOHA; assist patrons with interlibrary loans; perform copy cataloging; perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain the integrity and appearance of the Learning Commons through furniture arrangement design and installation of library displays and signage and creation of library promotional materials.
  • Responsible for large format printing
    • Operate and maintain large format printers to produce various print materials including posters banners signs and other visual aids
    • Create and maintain print submission documentation including document formatting specifications and printing turn-around times
    • Review submitted documents to ensure they meet large format printing standards and assist requestors with necessary reformatting
    • Ensure that print jobs are set up correctly including selecting appropriate settings loading materials and monitoring the printing process for quality control
    • Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise during printing such as paper jams color calibration and printer malfunctions
    • Coordinate with colleagues to prioritize print jobs based on deadlines and requirements
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks on printers including cleaning calibrating and replacing consumable supplies as needed
    • Ensure adequate supply of paper and consumables and reorder as needed
    • Work with printer vendor to coordinate repairs
    • Complete and maintain printer expenditure transfer billing records
    • Keep accurate records of print jobs materials used time spent and any issues encountered
    • Follow established safety protocols when operating printers and handling printing materials
  • Performs other tasks as requested by the Director of Library Services

COMPETENCIES:

  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven professionalism with the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
  • Skilled in managing multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail under pressure.
  • Proficient in Windows-based computer applications including Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • This is a full-time non-exempt position with the following work schedule
    • During the fall and spring semesters the hours are typically 3:00pm to 11:00pm Sunday through Thursday.
    • During Finals weeks the hours will be extended to 5:00pm to 1:00am.
    • During summer and winter breaks the hours are Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • An Associates Degree is required; a Bachelors Degree is preferred.
  • Some work experience in a library environment is preferred.
  • Experience using an integrated library management system and OPAC is preferred.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting copiers scanners printers and other technologies is preferred.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and other educational technologies is preferred.
