Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:

In collaboration with the Training & Regional Farrowing Manager the Onboarding Training Specialist will play a key role in deployment Schwartz Farms Inc.s hands-on training program at sow farms. This role will focus primarily on onboarding new hires and supporting the continued development of current team members at assigned sow farms. Key training areas will include animal care proper handling techniques and team member safety among others. This position will serve the Herington & Longford Kansas region. Traveling up to 60 miles to one location required.

In the absence of training needs such as periods without new hires to onboard-the incumbent will support and perform daily production by performing the regular duties of a Breeding and/or Farrowing Technician as assigned by the Training & Regional Farrowing Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

When onboarding new employees the Onboarding Training Specialist is responsible for the following at the sow farms:

  • Exemplify servant leadership and the core principles of Schwartz Farms Inc.
  • Follow all company policies protocols and procedures
  • Prepare for the arrival of the new employee to the sow farm including clothing footwear nametags etc.
  • In collaboration with the Training & Regional Farrowing Manager and in advocacy of the Unit Manager deploy the training program for Farrowing & Breeding Technicians including materials and standard operating procedures to ensure best training practices in team member safety daily swine handling and animal care
  • Provide hands-on training of SFI policies and standard operating procedures to individual(s) on the farm to enhance team member safety daily swine handling and animal care to name a few; continue training until objectives are met
  • Conduct PQA trainings (and/or other industry certifications)
  • Based on priorities established by the Training & Regional Farrowing Manager coordinate training schedule and needs with Unit Manager(s) and Human Resources
  • Report progress of trainee(s) to Unit Managers and Human Resources as needed
  • Manage training documentation including but not limited to participation testing progress reports and/or follow-up
  • Possess a deep working knowledge of the operations and personnel of assigned sow farms
  • Remain abreast of changes in industry standards (such as PQA TQA swine care handbook) regulations business initiatives and new technologies; confer with Training & Regional Farrowing Manager Unit Managers and team members on impact to training needs
  • Conduct follow-up on trainees to evaluate need for retraining and measure results

In the absence of training needs such as periods without new hires to onboard-the incumbent will support and perform daily production by performing the regular duties of a Breeding and/or Farrowing Technician as assigned by the Training & Regional Farrowing Manager.

As position develops incumbent may be directed to participate in animal welfare investigations and/or concerns.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual with fluency in English and Spanish
  • Possess and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint etc.).
  • Collaboration and team building skills
  • Strong communication skills verbal and written
  • Time management skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Highly detailed and organized
  • Desire to work with swine and people
  • High level of professionalism; able to represent Schwartz Farms in a positive manner
  • Ability to relate to various learning styles and personalities
  • Ability to exercise judgment tact and firmness with stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of six months in a sow farm
  • Advanced knowledge of swine production particularly in breeding and farrowing
  • Bachelor of science in animal science related field or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of acceptable industry practices

The preceding qualifications are guidelines. Other combinations of education and experience could provide the necessary knowledge skills and abilities to perform this job.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Position may involve non-standard business hours
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work in swine facilities
  • While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is regularly required to talk and listen
  • The employee frequently is required to stand walk bend use hands and arms lift pigs reach etc.
  • The job requires long periods of standing on hard surfaces during the normal course of the day
  • The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job
