Minimum Qualifications:
SC certification in Early Childhood Elementary or Reading/Literacy required
Masters Degree in Education required
Minimum of five years experience at the elementary level or in specialized reading with elementary students
Thorough knowledge of reading and developmentally appropriate practices and evidence of application of proven practice
Must have a personal commitment to self-reflection learning new skills and acquiring new knowledge; (evidence of continuous diverse professional growth and development; e.g. attending conferences reading books and articles on language literacy development and teaching; sharing new knowledge and insights with others; holding membership in professional organizations)
Extensive experience mentoring adults and facilitating professional dialogue
Excellent interpersonal skills
Effective observation skills
Ability to work with the educational change process in a knowledgeable and humane way
Skill at organizing materials and services
Ability to collect and analyze data
Outstanding references from current and former supervisors
Satisfactory SLED (SC Law Enforcement Division) report
Salary Range: Administrative
Length of Contract: 12 months
Starting Date: Immediately upon selection

Literacy Specialist
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Elementary Education the District Literacy Specialist will assist in directing the activities of Rock Hill Schools elementary literacy programs. The District Literacy Specialist will work with the Executive Director of Elementary Education and school based reading coaches to develop literacy plans for Rock Hill Schools.
The district literacy specialist will provide expert guidance and professional development on the most effective ways to implement literacy instruction in all Rock Hill Elementary Schools.
The District Literacy Specialist must be knowledgeable about current research in reading will investigate curriculum studies must have the ability to relate well with people and establish a positive working relationship with school staff and district administration.
