BASIC FUNCTION:
TRIUMF has developed cryogenic infrastructure including liquid nitrogen (LN2) storage and cryogenic transfer lines three liquid helium (LHe) cryoplants supporting operations of two superconducting (SC) accelerators helium liquefier-refrigerator providing LHe to 520 MeV Cyclotron cryopanels for cryopumping of hydrogen. Helium Recovery Facility (HRF) equipped with helium liquefier which recovers over 95% of helium used at various experimental stations.
This position will support engineering and R&D activities in the Cryogenics Group in an experienced role for both R&D and MRO activities. All engineering design will be performed under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer registered in BC. The position implies work on improvements developments and assistance to new projects and facilities which require cryogenic support. Cryogenics group also provides assistance to other groups for ex. support of SRF department R&D program etc.
MRO activities include assistance to MRO Cryogenic Expert with operation maintenance troubleshooting and repair of the vacuum cryogenic and refrigeration equipment.

No supervisory duties are associated with the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Sound knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of cryogenic engineering and technology is required for the position. Previous experience in construction and commissioning of cryogenic systems components on small and medium scale would be beneficial. Experience in performing flow dynamic simulations involving two-phase fluids using CFD ANSYS Fluent COMSOL or similar will be considered advantageous.
NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER:
The position requires the incumbent to be trained and designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). Training will be provided by TRIUMF for the successful candidate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
Must have a Ph.D. (received within 5 years) in engineering physics mechanical or process engineering with a minimum of 2 years of experience in designing commissioning and operating cryogenic systems (inclusive of the experience acquired as a Ph.D. student).
