Job Description

Introduction

Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

Thefundamental reason that this position exists is to perform specialized clericalwork which involves receiving filing maintaining and releasing recordsrelated to criminal justice and Identification Clerks work with a wide variety of lawenforcement reports and records including fingerprint records and cardsimpound records arrest reports warrants case files and false alarmapplications. Work responsibilitiesinclude the following: maintaining/utilizing files containing law enforcementand crime reports cards and other documents; identifying and classifying lawenforcement reports and records; performing technical law enforcement recordswork; compiling and calculating fees refunds etc.; and performing generalclerical duties. The Records andIdentification Clerk differs from other clerical positions in that Records andIdentification Clerks need specialized knowledge to perform their tasksappropriately. The Records and Identification Clerk reports to the MPDAdministrative Division Commander or his/her designee.

Minimum Qualifications

HighSchool diploma or G.E.D. certificate and one (1) year of clerical experiencereviewing and maintaining legal and/or law enforcement related records such asfingerprint records and cards impound records arrest reports warrants casefiles and false alarm applications.

NOTE: Qualifyingeducation training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge skillsand abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Somepositions may require a valid Alabama drivers license. All applicants will be required to submit toa thorough background investigation prior to employment.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill vacancies during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with theMontgomery Police Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held the dates they held them where and exactly what their duties were. If there are applications received exceed the number of vacancies the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank the applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If the number of qualified applicants does not exceed the number of vacancies they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
