Job Description

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree and four years of related experience with three years of supervisory experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Ability to plan assign instruct supervise and direct the work of subordinate staff.
  • Ability to plan organize direct coordinate and provide leadership.
  • Ability to coordinate and initiate actions implement decisions and make recommendations.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and professionally with others in controversial situations.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely whether verbally or in writing.

The Georgia State University Police Department provides law enforcement security and safety services to the university community and the immediatesurrounding areas ensuring a safe environment for ourstudents facultystaff and neighbors.

Georgia State boasts one of the largest university police forces in the state with over 100 officers across all six Atlanta metro campuses.

The department is accredited and certified by the following organizations: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA) the International Association of Campus LawEnforcement (IACLEA) and the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program.

The Police Department is seeking a Communications Director to join the already awesome team keeping the Police Department at the level of excellence that it has strived to become and sustain.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Manages and directs the operation of the Georgia State University Communications Center.
  • Maintains high-level liaison with Police Management and reports to the Chief of Police.
  • Remain current on new trends and innovations for public safety communications and familiar with police fire and emergency medical services response protocols.
  • Provides managerial and strategic direction of the Communications Center.
  • Develop operational plans and shift work schedules for the unit.
  • Select train and motivate assigned personnel.
  • Oversee New Hire Training Curriculum.
  • Prepares agency for national and state-level regulatory criminal justice audits and department reviews.
  • Serves as the Agency representative to oversee all GCIC computer operations training accounts and review GCIC monthly validation records.
  • Monitor and evaluate employee Telephone Techniques and Dispatch handling ensuring QA (Quality Assurance) proficiencies are maintained.
  • Coordinate all Communications Radio System connectivity to the City of Atlanta (Atlanta Police) and DeKalb County radio antenna sites.
  • Including maintaining radio inventory for 400 radios programming radios writing Radio Code Plugs activating radio use Maintenance and repair of radio equipment etc.
  • Compose department standard operating procedures and directives.
  • Development of unit goals objectives policies and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable on CLERY Act FERPA laws NOAA Weather notifications State and Federal laws LiveSafe App Alertus and Rave emergency notifications applications.
  • Works with surrounding law enforcement agencies training initiatives and police training academies to coordinate training opportunities.
