The disability services worker (DSW) under supervision of his/her supervisor facilitates and monitors education and development programs for purposes of providing individuals in service with physical behavioural emotional and social supports/supervision in residence and in the community. Disability service workers develop relationships and act as a liaison with the community family members guardians and employers. This position reports to the team leader.
This position requires union membership with CUPE 1099.
During overnight hours sleep shift staff ensure a consistent healthy and safe environment for the person in care and are available to provide immediate support in crisis situations. In the event of an emergent situation sleep staff will be responsible for awake responsibilities.
The front-line DSW sleeps at the clients residence and is available if needed to assist the client during overnight hours.
An additional $3.30 per hour will be paid when supporting complex needs clients. This additional amount does not apply to scheduled trainings/meetings and non-complex shifts.
Scheduling:
One (1) permanent full-time position
12 hour night shifts 1900-0700 on a two week rotation which consist of 4hrs awake scheduling and 8hrs of asleep scheduling
Week 1: Sunday Wednesday Thursday
Week 2: Monday Tuesday Friday Saturday
Support individuals to build life skills and social/occupational skills independence and encourage participation and social interaction within the community.
Teach/assist the client with daily household tasks (food preparation laundry cleaning etc) and light personal care (grooming dental care bathing)
Drive individual in your own vehicle to appointments day programs community events etc..
Contribute toward design implementation and evaluation of individual service plans program specific policies & procedures.
Communicate/document information that relates to program changes/service recipient changes to peers ministry representatives and other stakeholders as required.
Observe/document needs of individuals in service.

2 years experience supporting individuals with high behaviors autism FASD developmental disabilities mental health concerns trauma etc.
High School Diploma/GED
Valid drivers license and reliable vehicle (for transporting clients)
First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (NVCI or CPI)
Skills in assisting individuals in anger management daily living self help etc.
Will receive training in Medication Administration Abuse Protocol Proactive Procedures and Behavioural Strategies Suicide Prevention etc.
