Hybrid role based out of our Mechelen Belgium office. Employees are expected to be in office at least two days a week.

The role:

As a Software Engineer 2 - Java Developer you will gain familiarity with Illuminas products and projects you will apply programming best practices you will support the software development team by writing and maintaining code with the help of senior level software engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with product owners and other application developers to design code and maintain high quality applications against established processes in a scrum team setting
• Work with software teams to ensure alignment of architecture to user requirements
• Able to lead investigation and resolution of technical problems within department
• Implementation of bugfixes improvements and new stories

Requirements:

• Good understanding of object-oriented analysis and design
• Knowledge and experience with Java
• Knowledge and experience with SQL
• Experience designing and implementing software quality patterns and practices (unit testing integrated testing)
• Understanding of REST APIs
• Understanding of Java Persistence
• Experience with GIT
• Knowledge and experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Have proven verbal and written communication skills (English)

Preferred Requirements:

• Experience with the Vaadin web Framework is a plus
• Knowledge and experience with Go is a plus
• Knowledge and experience with ElasticSearch is a plus
• Experience with user interface development SOA and/or software security architecture is a plus
• Experience in J2EE and application servers (such as JBoss) is a plus
• Interest in continuous delivery and continuous integration is a plus
• Interest in cloud technologies is a plus
• Interest in development methodologies (such as Scrum Kanban etc.) is a plus
• Be curious detail oriented analytical with a proven ability to learn quickly
• Be customer-focused end-user-focused team-oriented and motivated taking ownership of assigned tasks
