Job Description

Position Summary

Under general supervision the Accountant - General and Corporate performs complex accounting assignments requiring general knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Administers General Ledger transactions and supports financial reporting. Success in this role is crucial to upholding the companys core values of Stronger Together Own it Breed Excellence Do the Right Thing and Responsible.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supports the month-end closing process.
  • Assists in preparing monthly financial reporting deliverables.
  • Monitors and reconciles general ledger accounts.
  • Performs complex financial reporting assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and SEC Regulations.
  • Assists in preparing quarterly and annual SEC filings including footnote disclosures and MD&A sections.
  • Reviews tie-outs of external financial statements
  • Analyzes supporting documentation received from accounting and other departments to determine accuracy and completeness.
  • Executes controls as outlined in the risk control matrix
  • Collaborates with land operations and engineering departments to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Supports the external audit process including the preparation of audit schedules and liaison with auditors.
  • Performs technical accounting research.
  • Drives process improvements in financial reporting and data management including the implementation of automation and streamlining of workflows for enhanced efficiency.
  • Takes a leadership role in communicating and distributing information throughout functional areas.
  • Ensures compliance within thedepartment through leadership.
  • Complies with all the Companys Safety and Environmental policies practices and programs. Takes corrective action within training limitations. Escalates as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Certificates Licenses

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent required.
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Masters Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • CPA certification preferred.

Experience

  • 8 years of relevant accounting experience required with at least 3 years in the oil and gas E&P industry preferred.
  • 2 years of working for a publicly traded company.
  • Big 4 public accounting experience preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Critical:

  • Experience with SEC Form requirements including 10-K 10-Q and 8-K.
  • Advanced accounting research skills.
  • Knowledge of industry software such as Oracle SAP Aucerna and Workiva.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

Required:

  • Ability to work well on a team in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated usage of information systems functionality in assigned areas and displays ability to make efficiency improvements.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to solve complex issues independently.
  • Communicates technical accounting topics and recommendations to other members of the accounting department as well as other stakeholders. Communicates in writing and orally with clarity and precision across departments.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.

Desired:

  • Ability to adapt well to changes in assignments and responsibilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of internal control of appropriate evidentiary documentation in areas of responsibility.
  • Consistently demonstrates the initiative to identify and pursue improvement opportunities.

Work Environment

  • Primarily office work environment.
  • Routine work involves common office activities during a typical 9-hour day such as standing sitting walking typing and twisting as necessary.
  • May be required to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

The pay range for this position is between $87360 and $103740 annually based on a full-time schedule. Please note that the annual salary information is a general guideline and that annual salary will vary depending on your location and that Berry Corporation (Berry) will consider factors such as (but not limited to) scope of responsibilities of the position candidates work experience education/training key skills internal peer equity as well as market and business considers when extending an offer. This position is eligible for short-term cash incentive bonus and long-term incentive awarded in restricted share units excellent benefits including full health benefits 401(k) with company match and immediate vesting tuition reimbursement 9/80 flex schedules and generous paid time off.
