Job Description
The City of Suwanee is looking for a Public Works Crew Member. The Crew Memberis responsible for operating assigned equipment in support of the construction repair and maintenance of City buildings facilities parks grounds streets fleet equipment and stormwater facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Loads and unloads items such as stone gravel dirt asphalt pipe and heavy mechanical equipment.
- Maintains City landscaping; mows grass and weeds in rights-of-way medians public grounds and parks; trims trees and bushes with power tools; chips debris; and applies pesticide and herbicide.
- Cleans bathrooms removes trash strips and waxes floors vacuums carpets and rugs washes and dusts windows wipes down furniture and dusts.
- Patches potholes and makes other street repairs; cleans gutters sidewalks and catch basins.
- Repairs and maintains City sidewalks park facilities waterlines and grounds; and maintains the Citys interactive fountain.
- Operates a variety of power tools and light to medium equipment in the maintenance and repair of roads vehicle and equipment fleet grounds and City buildings.
- Participates in the maintenance and repair of equipment trucks trailers and power tools.
- Assists in setting up and cleaning up for special events which includes the set up and take down of tables chairs barricades and other materials needed.
Landscape/Horticulture
- Plants shrubs trees ground cover and flowers.
- Prunes shrubs and trees removes weeds fertilizes and sprays pesticides to control insects on a weekly basis as required.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of departmental and City policies and procedures including safety rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of City geography including street locations.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and rules involved in vehicle and equipment operation and basic traffic control/barricade procedures.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards and practices applicable to work.
- Knowledge of landscape construction landscape maintenance or farming/agriculture industries is required.
- Skills in the operation and basic repair of machinery and trucks used in the maintenance of parks grounds and buildings.
- Skills in the operation of job-specific equipment and in the performance of duties under a variety of weather conditions.
- Skills in the establishment of safe work zones on busy streets.
- Skills of landscape construction landscape maintenance or farming/agriculture industries is required.
