Description
Summary:
This is a full-time position with benefits. This position reports to the Superintendent of Grounds. This position is responsible for managing and maintaining all sports fields including soccer field football field softball field baseball field and practice field.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Use independent judgement to evaluate field requirements and perform those duties as needed.
- Assist with planning and implementing field renovation projects.
- Assists with developing and managing budget related to athletic fields.
- Performs mowing edging string trimming and blowing of fields.
- Performs and schedules field maintenance duties including but not limited to turf fertilizer applications; turf pesticide applications; topdressing; aerification; verticutting; raking; irrigation programming testing and repairs; soil sampling; moisture management of turf; and overseeding.
- Performs proper maintenance techniques to ensure safe playable surfaces.
- Performs upkeep on shrubs trees and landscape beds within athletic field areas. These duties include but are not limited to trimming; mulching; spraying weeds and insects; and limbing up trees.
- Uses hand and power tools as needed to accomplish tasks.
- Remove trash and debris from the field before mowing.
- Able to lift/move objects and equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds as needed.
- Must be able to work weekends as needed.
- Ability to schedule field maintenance around events camps practices and games.
Qualifications
Experience and Training:
- Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
- Prefer applicants with strong turf or sports fields experience.
- Prefer applicants with a pesticide license.
- Prefer applicants with education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
- Valid Drivers License required.
Knowledge of:
- Athletic field turf and its proper maintenance.
- Microsoft Excel and Outlook email.
- Hazards and safety precautions related to maintaining athletic fields.
Ability to:
- Properly care for assigned areas and equipment.
- Identify turf pests and diseases.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Bend kneel lift and shovel.
- Lift/move heavy equipment and objects as needed.
- Properly use and care for hand and power tools.
