Job Description
Join us! Going strong since 1974 CASE is an educational collaborative agency made up of 11 regional and municipal districts affording member and non-member school districts the opportunity to augment local services by planning developing and implementing programs for students with special needs.Job Goal:To serve as a teacher of the visually impaired for the CASE Collaborative. Responsibilities include all appropriate planning instruction and assessment for students with disabilities enrolled in the assigned classroom(s). To work collaboratively with parents/guardians and colleagues to meet the academic social/emotional and behavioral needs of students with disabilities.Job Responsibilities:
- Participate in Team reevaluation and annual review meetings for students on caseload and write Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Contribute to the development of the IEPs with recommendations for goals modifications/ accommodations and learning styles.
- Interpret medical eye reports as they relate to educational environments.
- Assess and maintain data on progress of all students on caseload and differentiate student goals and instruction accordingly.
- Complete progress reports for all students on caseload according to the schedule set by host school Collaborative and special education regulations.
- Develop and implement schedules for students vision and/or deaf/blind services in accordance with their IEPs service delivery;
- Provide direct instruction to students in the classroom setting.
- Select appropriate instructional programs and methodologies plan and implement instruction that matches students IEP goals and objectives.
- Develop and implement curriculum aligned with MA state Frameworks and Common Core Standards.
- Responsible for developing instruction appropriate to the needs of each student corresponding to the students visual function and academic level.
- Provide screening and referral procedures to appropriate personnel.
- Responsible for the assessment and evaluation of functional vision in the educational setting. Determine students educational needs based on use of appropriate assessments; Write reports and present at Team annual and reevaluation meetings.
- Perform orientation and mobility evaluations that focus on long- and short-term needs of the student for new referrals and at intervals as designated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
- Teach students to travel with proficiency safety and confidence in familiar and unfamiliar environments
- Provide orientation of new buildings and new class schedules to students with visual impairments as needed including those community settings where students receive instruction Concept development:
- Visual efficiency skills (with and without aids)
- Pre-cane skills
- Cane skills including alternate canes
- Map skills
- Outdoor
- Residential
- Semi-business Business
- Teach Braille and assistive technology when necessary.
- Order and keep track of Braille Large Print cassette books and tangible items from the State Vision Resource Library.
- Register students with the State Vision Resource Library and/or Mass. Commission for the Blind.
- Maintain and use current technology and adaptive equipment and materials.
- Collaborate with students special education Team to address transition-related issues and skills and to implement transition services according to Transition Planning Form (TPF).
- Consult with parents/guardians teachers therapists and teaching assistants regarding planning and students program needs as well as accommodations and modifications.
- Provide consultative services to member and non member districts
- Provide communication to parents/guardians of students on caseload
- Participate in host school Open House for parents/guardians staff meetings and professional development opportunities as appropriate.
- Complete budget requests for the Collaborative budget; Order necessary materials for instruction and assessment.
- Given training by a Registered Nurse and/or training videos the TVI will use an EpiPen and/or Vagal Nerve Stimulator with the student for whom they were prescribed.
- Attend Collaborative-wide and specific program staff meetings as scheduled by the Program Administrator and/or Executive Director.
- Keep abreast of the latest trends materials research and best practices related to the field.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to increase knowledge base and skills as well as maintain licensure.
- Maintain the high level of confidentiality and professionalism expected of all faculty.
- Perform other related tasks or duties at the discretion of the Program Administrator and/or Executive Director.
- Use of hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls see (including close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus) hear and speak; (i.e. Computer calculator telephone).
- Requires good physical condition to support lifting positioning and transitioning students as needed according to caseload/classroom assignment. Demands of lifting may be up to 50 pounds.
- Meet the physical requirements necessary to implement physical interventions/escorts according to the collaborative policies protocols and special education regulations.
