Job Description

Job Title: Special Education Facilitator for Instruction and Professional Development Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Special Education
Pay Grade: AP-3
Days: 226

Primary Purpose:

The Special Education Facilitator for Instruction and Professional Development is under the direction of the Special Education Director. The Facilitator is responsible for supporting the implementation of high-quality instructional practices and curriculum in specialized settings including resource Life Skills ECSE and behavioral classrooms. This role oversees the planning and delivery of professional development opportunities for special education staff promotes effective instructional strategies and ensures alignment of accommodations and supports for state assessments. The Facilitator also collaborates with district and campus administrators staff parents and community stakeholders to support the unique instructional needs of students with disabilities. The position involves coaching and mentorship of teachers leadership development oversight of summer programming and program monitoring to ensure accountability and excellence in special education service delivery.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Current state certification on file in the district office listing certification endorsements in Special Education preferred
Masters degree from an accredited college or university
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation

Strong organizational skills communication and interpersonal skills

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction as it relates to special education

Experience:

Minimum 3 years teaching experience required

3 years experience in leadership roles

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

ARD/IEP Collaboration and Facilitation

  1. Collaborate with students parents and staff to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through the ARD Committee process for assigned students.
  2. Attend ARD committee meetings and ensure accurate documentation and implementation of supports for students with autism and other disabilities.
  3. Facilitate ARD committee meetings using the Esped computer management program and provide ongoing support for staff using the program.

Instructional Support and Program Implementation

  1. Provide direct instructional support and coaching for special education self-contained teachers in Life Skills ECSE and behavioral classrooms.
  2. Support teachers in the implementation of designated curricula and instructional practices for various special education settings.
  3. Collaborate with campus administrators and teachers to promote instructional best practices for students with significant needs.
  4. Deliver training and guidance on evidence-based instructional strategies and classroom management techniques.
  5. Monitor the effectiveness of instructional practices and provide feedback and recommendations for improvement.

Professional Development and Staff Training

  1. Plan develop and deliver staff development and training opportunities related to special education instructional practices and curriculum implementation.
  2. Provide training and support to general education teachers working with special education students including best practices for inclusion and positive behavior strategies.
  3. Develop and implement targeted professional development for special education staff in areas such as autism supports functional life skills and behavioral interventions.
  4. Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship for new special education staff members to ensure effective instructional practices.

Student and Family Support

  1. Collaborate with stakeholders including parents and staff to address the unique needs of students in specialized programs.
  2. Provide parent education and support opportunities related to special education services and instructional programs.

Program Oversight and Summer Programming

  1. Coordinate Extended School Year (ESY) and summer programs for eligible students.
  2. Conduct reviews of instructional practices and materials in resource and self-contained settings to ensure alignment with student needs and district curriculum.

State Testing and Accommodations Oversight

  1. Collaborate with district and campus staff to ensure appropriate alignment of accommodations and designated supports for state assessments for students receiving special education services.
  2. Provide training and support for staff in the development and implementation of testing accommodations in accordance with student needs and IEPs.
  3. Oversee the implementation and monitoring of the STAAR Alternate 2 assessment for eligible students across the district ensuring compliance and accurate reporting.

Communication

  1. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with principals teachers and related service providers.
  2. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues and community members.
  3. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Other Responsibilities

  1. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  2. Keep informed of and comply with federal state district and school regulations and policies.
  3. Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.
  4. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  5. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking standing stooping bending kneeling pushing and pulling.

Lifting: Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom or adaptive equipment and may work prolonged or irregular hours

Environment: Exposure to biological hazards and frequent district wide travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress

I acknowledge that I am aware that my salary is fully funded out of the IDEA-B Formula program and that 100% of my time and effort is focused on meeting the IDEA-B Formula program goal to provide special education and related services to children with disabilities ages 3-21. This position is supported and funded through a single cost objective.
