Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Hamilton Community Schools invites dedicated educators to apply for the STEM teaching position at Blue Star and Bentheim Elementary which is available starting in the 2025-2026 school year. We are excited to engage with quality candidates who are committed to inspiring children to develop emotionally socially and intellectually.

LOCATION: Blue Star and Bentheim Elementary

START DATE: 2025-2026 School Year

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position will also provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for:

  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate inquiry-based STEM lessons aligned with Michigan Academic Standards including the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Mathematics.
  • Integrate technology and engineering concepts into the curriculum to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Utilize various instructional strategies and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Assess and monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments; maintain accurate and timely records.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to support interdisciplinary learning and curriculum integration.
  • Create a safe inclusive and stimulating classroom environment that encourages student exploration and innovation.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in STEM education.
  • Organize and coordinate school-wide STEM events such as science fairs coding clubs or maker spaces.
  • Communicate effectively with students parents and colleagues to support student achievement and well-being.

Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:

  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement obtain information for parents when requested promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities sporting activities clubs and student organizations as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. Must have a valid Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate with one of the following endorsements: ZG General Elementary (Grades K5 All Subjects; K8 All Subjects in a self-contained classroom) ZO Lower Elementary (Grades PK3) ZP Upper Elementary (Grades 36) or General Elementary K-6 (ZE)

Preferred endorsement in one of the following content areas:

  • Science Endorsements: DI Integrated Science (Grades 612) or DQ General Science (Grades 612)
  • Mathematics Endorsements: EX Mathematics (Grades 612) or EM Mathematics (Grades 68)

ADDITIONAL CAPABILITIES and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience teaching STEM subjects at the elementary level.
  • Familiarity with project-based learning and inquiry-based instructional strategies.
  • Training or certification in STEM education programs or curricula.
  • Experience with organizing and leading extracurricular STEM activities or events.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment

SALARY RANGE: Per HEA Master Agreement

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Regularly required to sit stand walk talk hear operate a computer hand-held learning devices and other office equipment reach with hands and arms and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
