A Brief Overview

The Credentialing Coordinator according to specific instructions performs health care information system and application updates for Avera McKennan Hospital Avera McKennan Region (Clinics and Hospitals). Under supervision and according to policies is responsible to manage the process of credentialing of the Medical Staff and organize the business of the Credential Committee. Responsible for developing and analyzing data for use by hospital committees or leadership.

What you will do

  • Ensures all credentialing system data and documentation comply with internal and external auditors of compliance and all applicable accreditation standards (The Joint Commission CMS etc.).
  • Verify competence medical and/or professional education residency internships fellowships additional formal training relevant board certifications healthcare affiliations work history military experiences professional references licensure and certifications DEA certificates Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration (MCSR) malpractice coverage and privileges the applicant is requesting.
  • Maintain the credentialing database assuring accuracy and completeness generate reports and letters.
  • Organize and maintain credential files in the medical staff office and credentialing software.
  • Attend Credentials Committee meeting take minutes and present completed files to the Committee for recommendation of appointments and privileges.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the Medical Staff Bylaws and applicable hospital policies and procedures to ensure the medical staffs compliance with stated parameters.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest developments to enhance understanding of various regulations and legislation of the healthcare industry.
  • Prepare and analyze data for hospital committees PI units and leaders.
  • Uses Quality Improvement tools and other statistical tools to assist in data analysis and understanding.
  • Evaluates the results and provides input to hospital or medical staff committees.

Required Education License/Certification or Work Experience:

  • Associates in a related field of health information/healthcare.

Preferred Education License/Certification or Work Experience:

  • Bachelors in a related field of health information/healthcare.
