Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement the Quality Improvement Coordinator/MBSCR is responsible for reviewing physician documentation practices and preparing feedback to foster more complete documentation. In this role the specialist will complete chart reviews communicate with the physicians and coding specialists analyze data and prepare and present physician education programs to improve documentation completeness. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Behavior and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Job Functions:

  1. Accurately conducts concurrent and retrospective clinical documentation review and interpretation to apply appropriate clinical criteria for quality of care.
  2. Coordinate clinical resolution to discrepancies in data if appropriate. Maintain appropriate reporting deadlines.
  3. Maintain clinical knowledge and understanding of patient care serves as clinical content expert.
  4. The ability to utilize and track health information through various sources such as medical records death index surgery clinics direct patient contact accounts payable multiple electronic health record systems (Meditech Mosaiq etc.) and legal counsel.
  5. Identifies 100 percent of metabolic and bariatric surgery patients for inclusion in the MBSAQIP data registry (only applicable for the bariatric quality reporting).
  6. Serves as internal clinical consultant providing best practices to workgroups or individuals; aware of capabilities of data analytics and serves as a resource for data analysts coding CDI and others.
  7. Serves as internal consultant on the most current patient centered medical home standards; monitors data that is required for new and maintenance of PCMH standards; maintains the evidence of compliance and updates QPass. (only applicable to for the patient centered medical home coordination)
  8. Accurately abstract and submit required data and appropriate governmental and regulatory bodies in a timely manner.
  9. Educates providers and other clinical and non-clinical staff on the metric specifications and best practices. Assists with the development and implementation of improvements addressing quality of care; patient safety; and patient outcomes.
  10. Responsible/accountable for professional development and maintaining licensure.
  11. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelors degree prepared Nurse; Masters preferred; CPHQ preferred

Special Knowledge Skills Training:

  • Strong organizational skills; ability to analyze interpret and assimilate information; demonstrated knowledge in using clinical information systems; possess effective interpersonal skills; strong working knowledge of hospital organization and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation Details: Education experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
