Job Description

Milestones is a private day school dedicated to helping students discover their strengths and increase their self confidence. We offer a unique year-round academic program that incorporates both academic and therapeutic instruction in a state of the art building. Teachers have the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of multidisciplinary therapists and specialists. We have a low student to staff ratio and our population consists primarily of students with diagnoses on the Autism Spectrum Learning Disabilities Attention Deficit Disorder and Anxiety Disorders. Active Massachusetts Teaching Licensure in Moderate Disabilities 5-12 OR Severe Disabilities - All Levels required. Transition Specialist Endorsement is a plus. Our state of the art facility provides a creative and supportive environment for students to reach their highest level of potential. Milestones offers students a unique and intensive year-round academic and therapy program. Teachers work collaboratively with our clinical staff allowing multidisciplinary teams that consist of Teachers Psychologists Occupational Therapists Speech Therapists Reading and Math Specialists BCBA Principal and Directors. We have a low student to staff ratio and a teacher assistant to support teaching in each Special Education Teacher - Post High School is responsible for providing direct instruction to students across a variety of school-based and community-based settings for students age 18-22 within our Post-High School Program. As an integral member of the Transition Team the Special Educator works collaboratively with a variety of staff (transition therapeutic behavioral) to increase student success beyond the classroom. The Transition Program Team works with students to explore and integrate reasonable accommodations throughout all aspects of adult life -- employment education and community/independent living. Primary Responsibilities include:- Develop and implement lesson plans that include differentiated instruction and opportunities for hands on learning both in the classroom and out in the community.- Demonstrate team leadership skills to include initiative positivity problem-solving and flexibility.- Facilitate and maintain regular ongoing communication with supervisors.- Maintain daily schedules consisting of activities developed from student IEP goals/objectives. - Deliver both individualized and group instruction in the areas of career awareness job readiness socialization safety travel training self-help skills functional academics self-advocacy and self-determination.- Instruct students in a variety of community employment and education settings to support their post-secondary skill development.- Assist students in career research and identify necessary training and/or education required.- Collect and summarize performance data on an ongoing basis. - Collaborate and consult with therapeutic staff to ensure students receive functional individualized programming and supports on an ongoing basis.- Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships with members of a diverse community including employers students community college faculty staff and administrators and state and local agencies.- Ability to accurately analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action.- May be responsible to write quarterly progress reports.- Gather analyze and use student performance data to inform instruction.- May be a part of developing a scope and sequence/curriculum map for the year with support from supervisor mentors and specialists.- Providing academic behavioral and emotional support to students working collaboratively with others developing curriculum and lesson plans developing specialized instruction and modifying curriculum as necessary to meet the needs of Milestones students. - May attend parent meetings when requested.- Communicate with team regarding student progress both academically and social/emotional.- Teachers are required to maintain their professional teaching license. Qualifications:- Active Massachusetts Licensure in Moderate Disabilities 5-12 strongly preferred we will also review candidates with Severe Disabilities licensure - Transition Specialist Endorsement is a plus- Masters degree in Education or Special Education (preferred); Bachelors degree in a related field (required)- Positive disposition and a team-player mentality- Previous experience working with students with Autism developmental psychiatric and/or behavioral issues preferred- Experience with behavior management preferred- Experience with job coaching preferred- Clear driving record and comfort with transporting students in company vans - Excellent communication skills- Well-developed writing skills- Strong organizational skills- Flexible approach to classroom management MILESTONES PROVIDES EXCELLENT BENEFITS INCLUDING:- Competitive salary- 6 weeks of paid Vacation 8 Sick days and 2 Personal days in addition to scheduled holidays.
