Description
POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to Program Manager Social Policy is responsible for researching and providing policy support and advice on legislation regulations and Regional policies and practices in accordance with the Department and Branch initiatives. This role will conduct research for program and policy development and data management support projects and process development develop communication materials and stay up to date with social policy trends sector initiatives human service issues policies and procedures and the broader political environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor research and analyze implications related to policies/guidelines andlegislation and regulations affecting the Department/Branch/Division.
  • Conduct extensive literature reviews environmental scans including gathering synthesizing analyzing and reviewing qualitative and quantitative data to inform policy and program development.
  • Prepare presentations impact and options analyses and reports briefing notes and background materials to support staff and senior management.
  • Assist in coordinating/conducting research and consulting with internal and external partners (working groups workshops consultations etc.)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of work plans communications strategies including scope of work and key deliverables of the programs/projects.
  • Assess the changing environmental and political atmosphere and provides support to the respective Manager on policy or program implications.
  • Gather maintain and store related literature and research material in accordance with the Regions Records and Information policies.
  • Coordinate input strategies communications and information from municipalities and other community partners as necessary.
  • Respond to inquiries and resolve concerns as appropriate.
  • Ensure that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.
  • Participate in cross functional teams and committees work groups task forces and special projects as assigned.
  • Research and prepare communications for cross departmental audience including updates on evolving social policy and human service issues legislation data and learning opportunities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a University Degree in Business Policy or Public Administration Social Sciences or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in policy planning and project management advisory in a public sector environment.
  • Experience conducting extensive literature reviews including the ability to summarize complex data into understandable user-friendly relevant explanations for reporting and knowledge transfer to management and staff.
  • Knowledge of public policy practices and issues federal and provincial legislation and ability to conduct legislative interpretation and stay abreast of current issues.
  • Demonstrated ability in the Regions core competencies.
