Description

The Director of Resident Care Administrative is primarily responsible for the daily planning and co-ordination of the administrative requirements related to resident care including scheduling budgets policies & procedures strategic planning relationship management attendance management purchasing of equipment supplies and services and providing leadership in health and safety. As a valued member of Long-Term Care and Seniors Services the Director of Resident Care Administrative demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality care in accordance with the organizations mission vision and values. Duties within the Clinical Director of Care position may be required as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)

1. Commitment to and communication of Resident Care Mission including vision and annual goals and objectives for residents care and nursing services which are congruent with the mission statement of the Home.

2. Set monitor and improve standards policies and procedures for quality resident care to meet individual resident needs and their expectations involving them whenever possible.

3. Participate in the development and implementation of Nursing programs and related policies and procedures

4. Participate in strategic planning for the Home and for the interdisciplinary care team.

5. Develop and maintain effective relationships with the residents families the general public management other service providers committees organizations institutions and others. Promotes co-operation of services/programs with community agencies and other health care providers.

6. Accountable for the management of an employee Attendance Management Program for the Nursing Department to ensure effective human resource management and day-to-day operations and delegating as necessary.

7. Purchase equipment and supplies according to needs budget limitations and purchasing policy. Ensure inventory control.

8. Review contracts and quality of purchased services.

9. Promote continuity of nursing care with the Home health agencies and community.

10. Liaise with community service and education organizations and network with other LTC facilities.

11. Provide input to the appointment of a Medical Director.

12. Provide input to and monitor the Nursing department budget to maximize efficiencies meet all regulatory requirements and ensure expenditures stay within budget. Receive and analyze variance reports.

13. Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of resident safety principles and practices into all day-to-day activities. Follows all safe work practices and procedures and immediately communicates any activity or action which may constitute a risk to resident safety.

14. Provide leadership and supervision to Nursing Department staff in a manner that motivates guides and directs employees to the realization of departmental goals and objectives. Maintain a work environment that promotes staff participation teamwork and positive labour relations.

15. Responsible for participation in human resources planning as well as recruitment performance evaluations counseling discipline and termination of personnel.

16. Ensure required resources (human fiscal and material) are available to meet the resident care needs and expectations.

17. Review and approve staff scheduling. Facilitate orientation and training programs and oversee day-to-day activities of staff according to County policies and guidelines.

18. Participate in establishing the qualifications responsibilities and functions for each nursing position.

19. Provide input to staff development orientation in-services and continuing education as determined by the learning needs of nursing staff.

20. Ensures staff competency by reviewing certification and recertification.

21. Participates in the process of labor relations.

22. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long-Term Care Homes Act and their regulations in performing duties in a safe manner and follows all County of Simcoe Health & Safety policies procedures and legislation.

23. Monitor a facility-wide infection control program in consultation with the IPAC Specialist to provide infection surveillance and outbreak management activities.

24. Ensure employees in Nursing Department are provided with the necessary instructions/orientation regarding measures and procedures to be taken for their protection.

25. Ensure that all lost time work related accidents are reported as required.

26. Conduct daily unplanned inspections of the nursing areas documenting any unsafe conditions and ensuring unsafe conditions are corrected.

27. Provide a process for management/employee conflict resolution.

28. Ensure the competencies of staff by identification current certification and/or re-certification for the performance of specific nursing skills.

29. Prepare and present written reports as required.

30. Participate in committees as required.

31. Effectively utilizes all electronic systems provided.

32. Assume responsibility of the facility in the absence of the Administrator.

33. Perform other duties as assignedincluding redeployment in emergency situations

34. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

EDUCATION TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

Strong knowledge of health care principles obtained through the completion of a degree in Nursing. A certificate obtained from a Gerontology related program preferred.

Current registration with the Ontario College of Nurses as a Registered Nurse.

Geriatric related certifications would be an asset (RNAO certifications for BPG in LTC).

Strong understanding of policies and related legislation or initiatives and their significance and potential impact.

Very good leadership and supervisory skills and ability to interpret and apply employment policies and collective agreements.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong planning and organizational skills.

Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.

Knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet application skills.

Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.

As a condition of employment candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing as per Public Health requirements.

Valid G class drivers license and access to reliable vehicle.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of five (5) years experience in progressively responsible related positions including at least one (1) year as a Registered Nurse in a Long-Term Care setting and at least three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse in a managerial or supervisory role in a health care setting.

A minimum of two (2) years as a Director of Resident Care or similar position preferred.

Experience in the supervision of staff and the administration of employment policies and collective agreements.

EFFORT

Visual and analytical skills required when preparing reports problem solving etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is located in a long-term care facility exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.

Ability to work remotely if required.
