Job Description

  • Two-year diploma in Turf Management. Equivalencies will be considered with relevant experience
  • Current Standard First Aid Level C certification
  • WHMIS certification
  • 3 years of related experience in a Parks Maintenance and Operations setting
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills and ability
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating various pieces of equipment and implements related to specific programs including but not limited to John Deere tractors John Deere 72 with broom and Toolcat

Assets:

  • Experience with snowblowers leaf blowers and pressure washers
  • Familiarity with the City of Edmontons Green Book standards

Skills required for success:

  • Knowledge of PARS policies procedures and standards
  • Competency with Google programs
  • Effective communication skills with crew members and multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of methods materials tools and equipment used in PARS Sports Fields and Winter Operations
  • Ability to supervise lead coach mentor and guide crews
  • Ability to ensure compliance with City of Edmonton policies and procedures
  • Ability to represent the City of Edmonton in a professional honest respectful and safe manner
  • Ability to solve problems and make independent decisions
  • Ability to plan prioritize assign supervise and direct the work of staff
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment requiring cooperation and leadership skills
  • Extensive knowledge of OH&S legislation Enviso and WHMIS
  • Ability to inspect and approve completed work based on task standards
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing and to follow written and oral instructions

This unique position functions as a Crew Leader during the prime sports field season (approximately April 15 - October 31) and transitions to a Labourer II for snow removal and maintenance during the winter months (approximately November 1 - April 14). As a Crew Leader you will provide field-level supervision and hands-on leadership to crews responsible for sports field maintenance organizing resources and ensuring programs meet established standards. In the Labourer II role you will be crucial in supporting active pathway snow removal ensuring public access and safety. This role requires adaptability strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to safety and quality in all tasks.
