Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Secondary Media Center Instructional Assistants-HQ. Under the direction of the principal and Supervisor of Library Media the Media Center Instructional Assistant-HQ performs the daily routine operations of the media center including checking materials in and out sending out overdue notices shelving materials preparation of instructional materials monitoring student traffic and checking student sign-in and passes. The Media Center Instructional Assistant-HQ will provide support for students utilizing the media center under the guidance of a classroom teacher.
DUTIES:
- Works with staff to locate and deliver needed resources for curriculum support.
- Provides support for students utilizing the media center under the guidance of a classroom teacher.
- Provides assistance to patrons in locating retrieving and circulating resources.
- Utilizes an automated circulation system to check out materials and to print overdue notices.
- Assists with school library functions such as book fairs and school-wide reading incentives as needed.
- Manages the circulation and cataloging system for library media materials.
- Reshelves books that have been returned or used in the library according to the Dewey Decimal System.
- Monitors and supports dual enrollment students.
- Attend faculty/staff meetings.
- Participates in staff in-service programs as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Deemed Highly Qualified according to MSDE standards by possessing an Associates Degree 48 college credits or successful completion of the Paraprofessional examination.
- Previous experience in a classroom or library setting preferred.
- Familiarity with accepted practices and procedures in working with students to include those with behavioral problems.
- Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System is helpful.
- Comfortable working with technology.
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of understanding and acceptance of all children and interest in the education of students with special needs.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to accept supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively.

SALARY: Salary based on the Negotiated Agreement Between The Board of Education of Dorchester County and The Dorchester Educators Educational Support Personnel Association Unit I (7.0-hour duty day) salary scale. The current minimum salary for Scale U for FY2025 salary is: $28669. This is a ten (10) month full-time benefited position.
