Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
Responsible for spiritual care and programs at the Care and Share Centre and Chilliwack Shelter in support of the Mission Statement
Accountabilities:
- Prays with and or leads people to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits; endeavouring to invite them into the Body of Christ as appropriate (including linking clients to the church family and church programs whenever possible)
- Communicates regularly with the Corps Officer and the Community Ministries Director regarding meeting the spiritual needs of clients staff and volunteers.
- Plans and conducts creative worship services pastoral care programs (including on-going visitation and personal care) activities outreach programs and Bible studies for clients staff and volunteers as applicable
- Assists clients staff and volunteers towards achieving personal and spiritual well being
- Works as a team member with other staff in problem-solving for the benefit of individuals; may act as a member of a case management team
- Conducts funerals graveside services other ceremonies and bereavement follow-up for clients families staff and volunteers.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for pastoral care
- Supports the Shelter Manager in delivering the program: connecting with the Shelter residents delivering workshops etc.
- Communicates in an empathetic and influential manner with clients staff volunteers and community agencies; maintains written records / logs of activities (including activity reports and statistical information)
- Knows and acts in accordance with security procedures of the facility to ensure safety and confidentiality of clients staff or volunteers (e.g. contact with emergency response)
- May act in an intake capacity admitting clients following standard criteria
- May serve on Salvation Army Councils and Committees
- Performs other duties as assigned
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Governance Boards and Councils: None
Internal: Clients and their families; staff; managers; Corps Leaders
External: Works with external agencies.
MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:
- Reports directly to: Warren Schatz Community Ministries Director
- No direct reports.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.
- May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash.
- May be required to give input to annual budget or revenue projections.
- Monitors Spiritual Care budget in consultation with the Director.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Office setting
- Chilliwack Ministry Unit that includes a Shelter.
- May encounter individual who exhibits abusive and aggressive behaviors.
- Some travel may be required for the purposes of delivering training and professional development as well as hospital visitation.

education and experience Qualifications:
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalency. CASC Bachelor or Masters Degree an asset. Possess education and certification in Chaplaincy Divinity Theology Pastoral Counseling Spiritual Care or a related field of at least two academic years.
- Experience in similar position is preferred but not essential.
- Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening and Vulnerable Secord Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- At least 1year of experience providing spiritual care counseling or guidance to individuals dealing with addiction.
- Previous experience working in a rehabilitation center or addiction treatment facility is an advantage.

- Understanding of the impact of addiction on individuals spiritual well-being and the role of spiritual care in the recovery process.
- Strong interpersonal skills empathy and the ability to connect with individuals from diverse spiritual backgrounds and belief systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including medical professionals therapists and counselors.
- Strong communication and counseling skills enabling effective communication and support for clients facing spiritual challenges in their recovery journey.
- Familiarity with ethical guidelines related to spiritual care confidentiality and boundaries in a healthcare setting.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $25.11 to $31.39 with a maximum of $37.67.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
