Job Description

JOB GOALS: Provide assistance throughout the school building that will facilitate to provide a smooth functioning educational environment which allows all students to take full advantage of the instructional programs and available resource materials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

MAY INCLUDE OFFICE AND BUILDING WIDE DUTIES:

  1. Assist with A.M. and P.M. student drop off and pick up.
  2. Help with lunch count and scanning student lunch tickets as needed.
  3. Sub for teachers when no sub teachers are available.
  4. Recess duties as needed.
  5. Responsible for making the decision about inside verses outside recess.
  6. Help with Kindergarten Round-up.
  7. Assist with transportation needs.
  8. Attendance Secretary duties.
  9. Provide assistance in office typing.
  10. Run copy and office machines as required.
  11. Provide assistance as a receptionist as needed.
  12. Responsible for the removal of troubled children from their classrooms.

MAY INCLUDE CLASSROOM DUTIES:

  1. Under supervision of licensed teacher and building principal help to plan prepare and supervise classroom activities that directly or indirectly serve all students.
  2. Work with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
  3. Assist individual children in need of special attention.
  4. Supervise drill work guide independent study enrichment work and remedial work for assigned students as arranged by the teacher.
  5. Set up audio-visual equipment for classroom activities and/or tutoring.
  6. Check notebooks correct papers supervise testing and make up work as needed.
  7. Type teaching materials duplicate tests or make other materials as needed.
  8. Instruct Brain Lab three days a week for afternoon rotations.
  9. Assist kindergarten teachers.
  10. Assist with 2nd grade and kindergarten interventions.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Assistants hired after January 8 2006 must have:

Completed two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; or

Obtained an associates (or higher) degree; or

- Passed the Para Pro Test

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance

instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of school employees students or parents.

MATHEMATICAL SKILL:

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Must be proficient in the use of computers for various office applications. Ability to type and use the machines tools equipment and work aids that may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this type of work i.e. computer copy machine calculator sorting machines tools charts forms ledgers schedules text books. Employee must maintain a positive relationship with other staff parents and students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls reach with hands and arms and taste or smell.

The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The working environment is mainly indoors other than routine errands.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

187 days per year. Salary and benefits as per Classified Policy.

EVALUATION:

An evaluation will be done on the employees performance on an annual basis.
