Job Description

FALL - Elementary Athletic Club Instructor (Running Soccer)

Description: Elementary Level Instructor for After School Athletic Club

Qualifications:

  • CT Coaching Certification required
  • Knowledge/Experience in related sport is preferred
  • Club/coaching experience preferred

Reports to: Athletic Facilitator (AF) Principal Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives

Essential Functions:

  • Plan organize and lead after-school athletic activities that promote physical fitness teamwork and student engagement.
  • Supervise students to ensure safety and appropriate behavior during all activities.
  • Encourage participation and foster a positive inclusive and respectful environment for all students.
  • Communicate effectively with students families and school staff about club logistics expectations and schedules.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment supplies and facilities used during the club.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the Coordinator of Extended Learning at the building level for scheduling bus needs food service procedures and other building based needs.
  • Utilizes the district procedure for generating permissions rostering students and communicating with school based nursing staff.
  • Communicates program needs to the Elementary AF

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of Sport and Strategies Comprehensive knowledge of sport rules and the ability to break down strategies for athletes at the elementary level.
  • Youth Development Principles Knowledge of age-appropriate ability as it relates to ability (physical cognitive and emotional).
  • First Aid and CPR Familiarity with emergency procedures including CPR and first aid certification (often required).
  • Concussion and Injury Protocols Understanding of Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) or school district policies on injuries and concussions.
  • Educational and School Policies Awareness of school district or school policies codes of conduct and academic eligibility requirements. The eligibility of elementary students should be done on a case to case basis and involve the AF and Principal.
  • Equity and Inclusion Understanding of cultural competency inclusive coaching practices and gender equity in sports.
  • Effective Communication Clear communication with players parents school administrators and assistant coaches.
  • Conflict Resolution Managing disputes among players or addressing parental concerns diplomatically.
  • Develop Athletes Ability to improve players skills physical fitness and understanding of the game.
  • Foster a Positive Group Culture Build a supportive environment that promotes sportsmanship teamwork and character.
  • Adapt to Diverse Needs Modify coaching methods for varying skill levels learning styles and physical abilities.
  • Serve as a Role Model Exhibit integrity professionalism and a commitment to student development both on and off the field.

  • Ability to actively demonstrate athletic techniques and drills.
  • Must be able to stand walk run and move quickly across athletic fields or courts for extended periods (up to several hours).
  • Must be able to lift carry and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending kneeling stooping and reaching overhead and to the ground.
  • Must be able to observe student performance at varying distances and in varying lighting and weather conditions.
  • Ability to project voice and communicate effectively over noise and across distances.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat cold rain).
  • May be required to travel with teams to and from athletic events including evenings and weekends.

Shift Type: Part Time 2 hours a day 2 days a week 5 weeks (Anticipated timeframe 9/15/25-10/17/25)

Salary: NTL hourly rate

Location: Elementary Schools (7)

Evaluation: Will be conducted by Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives and reviewed by the principal in accordance with the performance responsibilities.
