Job Description

JOB TITLE: Van Driver

EXEMPT: No

GRADE: 107

LOCATION: Transportation

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9-Month

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

SUMMARY: The job of Van Driver is done for the purpose(s) of operating school transportation vehicles and providing safe transportation services to and from school extra-curricular activities and other special assignments for Pendergast School District students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma GED or equivalent
  • Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid Arizona drivers license
  • Exemplary driving record with no more than 6 points in the past 24 months or repeated violations in the past 10 years. 36 month driving record must be obtained from the Motor Vehicle Department annually
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR and first-aid certification
  • Must pass ADOT physical examination and drug screening
  • Must be in good physical health
  • Ability to work an alternate schedule when needed
  • Knowledge of Metro Phoenix Glendale Avondale and Peoria
  • Must complete van driver training class
  • Proof of immunity to Measles and German Measles
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP)

Such alternatives to the above required & preferred qualifications as the Superintendent/Designee may find appropriate and acceptable

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains punctual and regular attendance for the purpose of ensuring the necessary personnel to transport students
  2. Transports students to and from school extracurricular activities and special assignments following established routes using a District van for the purpose of students arriving safely
  3. Performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections; check fluid levels and condition of vehicle before during and after every run for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students and staff
  4. Observe all mandatory safety regulations published by District policy
  5. Monitor and maintain student discipline; submit written referrals when appropriate
  6. Administer first-aid when necessary for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students and staff
  7. Provide special assistance to students with special needs when transporting and accessing the van for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students and staff
  8. Able to react professionally and responsibly in an emergency for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students and staff
  9. Maintain interior and exterior of van for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students and staff
  10. Provide feedback and information related to route design creation re-route proposals elimination or updating of van routes
  11. Submit to random periodic and post-accident drug/alcohol testing for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students and staff
  12. Participate in department meetings and training for the purpose of staff development
  13. Report all citations and accidents complete required forms for the purpose of keeping accurate documentation
  14. Maintain confidentiality regarding students staff parents and school issues
  15. Perform responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner
  16. Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee

Proven ability to work in a fast-paced demanding environment on multiple projects simultaneously both as a team member and individually.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provision of the Board policy or evaluation of professional personnel.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several concrete variables.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read analyze and interpret education materials and programs; ability to write reports procedure manuals and correspondence; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers students administration and the community.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical such as probability and statistical inference; ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
