About the Position:
CSUF University Extension collaborates with academic departments and colleges on unique self-supporting programs for domestic and international students. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Instructional Designer (Information Technology Consultant Foundation). This position will provide instructional design and technology support for a large complex portfolio of self-supporting credit and non-credit programs. This position is ideal for candidates with foundational knowledge in instructional design and technology who are eager to grow their expertise in a supportive academic environment. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity openness flexibility integrity.
The Instructional Designer supports the development and delivery of high-quality instructional content and learning experiences for University Extensions flexible and continuing education programs. Under direct supervision the Instructional Designer collaborates with faculty subject matter experts and academic staff to assist in designing developing and improving instructional materials for a variety of delivery formats including online hybrid and in-person courses. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science Computer Information Systems Information Systems Telecommunications Engineering Engineering Technology or a related field or four years relevant full-time experience or an associates degree in a related field with two years of relevant full-time experience.
Basic knowledge of the specialty work area demonstrated by an understanding and use of general principals and terminology. Demonstrated understanding of the standard technology and systems in place with the capability of supporting and operating the technology. Ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and refer to appropriate party for resolution. Ability to solve problems where precedents exist and acquire knowledge in related specialties. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree from an accredited college or university in instructional design educational technology education or a related field. Experience with a learning management system such as Canvas. Experience working at an institution of higher education and familiarity with online hybrid and in-person learning environments. Exposure to accessibility and universal design for learning (UDL) standards. Coursework or internship experience in instructional design or a related field. Some basic knowledge and experience using Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop Illustrator Premiere Pro) and Microsoft Productivity Tools (e.g. Word Excel PowerPoint Teams). Basic understanding of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and coding concepts for web-based content development.
