Job Description

  • Employment Type: Part Time; 17.5 hours per week
  • Duration: 1 Year Fixed Term
  • Remuneration: Level 6 $100354 pro rata 17% super annual leave loading
  • Location: Kensington campus NSW

Why this role matters:

The Research Officer will play a key role in supporting a range of research projects within the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing part of the Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health School of Medicine and Health.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team the role provides technical and research assistance to senior researchers contributing to the design coordination and implementation of studies focused on treatments for Vascular Cognitive Impairment and Dementia (VCID). This includes data collection analysis literature reviews and other research-related activities to support the Centres broader research objectives.

The role reports directly to the Scientia Professor and has no direct reports.

Skills Required:

  • A university degree in biology medicine public health or related discipline or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education training or experience.
  • Ideally should have completed or near completion of doctoral studies.
  • Knowledge of research protocols experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones.
  • Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications including COVIDENCE and statistical software including R.
  • Experience running and performing meta-analyses or network meta-analyses including statistics behind understanding heterogeneity bias and quality of study assessment.
  • Understanding of genetics epigenetics and the use of mendelian randomisation analyses.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent time management skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSWs aims objectives and values in action together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
