JOB TITLE:WFP Volunteer

DURATION:8 weeks 7th of July till 29th of August
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The WFP Innovation Accelerator was named by Fast Company as Most Innovative Non-Profit Organization 2021 for its work in identifying nurturing and scaling disruptive start-ups and innovations to end global hunger. Based in Munich Germany the Innovation Accelerator provides WFP employees entrepreneurs and start-ups with funding hands-on support and access to WFPs global operations. Through the Innovation Accelerator WFP is leveraging unprecedented advances in digital innovation such as mobile technology artificial intelligence and blockchain and new business models to transform the way it serves vulnerable communities across the world. In 2024 the Innovation Accelerator supported innovations that positively impacted the lives of 61 million people globally. Most recently the Accelerator runs programmes for external partners such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and others.
More information here: and Voluntary Assistant under the overall supervision of the Strategic Projects Consultant in the Head of Accelerator Office is expected to:
1. Support with a Global Events Landscape and Strategic Engagement Opportunities research
Objective: Propose a comprehensive categorized database of all current and relevant innovation- and donor-focused events where the WFP Innovation Accelerator should maintain or pursue presence.
Deliverables:
A structured database categorized by theme geography and audience.
Mapping of potential future events and key visibility opportunities in coordination with the Accelerator partnerships and communications team as needed (e.g. with focus on Asia and the Middle East).
Include additional details such as past WFP attendance potential speaking opportunities deadlines and application timelines to ensure timely decision-making and avoid missed opportunities (e.g. SXSW in London).
Identify partnership individual fundraising and pro bono support opportunities tied to event participation.
2. Support AI Tools and Use Case Research
Objective: Support structured research to assess how AI tools can increase staff efficiency processes on innovation venture building path to scale enabling functions and improve quality in key tasks such as summarization translation brainstorming graphic design.
Deliverables:
Conduct interviews or surveys with staff to document current and potential AI tool usage.
Create overview of existing tools already in use across the Accelerator.
Develop a comparative matrix of tools used with corresponding use cases and benefits tailored to different teams.
Research corporate and likely-to-be-corporate tools within WFPs operational rules and limitations that could benefit operations.
Identify and document potential use cases within the current toolset and assess their feasibility.
Support the creation of a prompt library with effective examples based on Accelerator needs and potentially a Lunch & Learn.
3. Execute any other task required to support the activities of the Head of the Accelerator Office.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT
High-quality written materials graphics database and related tasks are produced within the respective deadlines.
Ensure that all work and materials developed during the Volunteer Assignment are well documented and available to the WFP Innovation Accelerator team.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education: The candidate must have a Bachelors degree. A masters degree is a plus. A humanitarian and innovation background is beneficial. Education in the field of innovation Data Analytics AI management or other similar fields is most appropriate but not a prerequisite
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong conceptual thinking to create databases for projects and activities with innovative elements.
Ability to produce high-quality written materials including graphically-based PowerPoint presentations as well as text documents for diverse audiences.
Collaborative spirit with the ability to multitask and cross-collaborate with people at all levels and across different cultures teams and to act with credibility and diplomacy
Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy.
Proficient in using tech tools and adeptness to trialing
Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the UN World Food Programme
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required. Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic Chinese French Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFPs working languages) is beneficial.
