Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2300 team members operating nine institutions statewide which house approximately 5800 inmates. The departments focus includes inmate programming and education physical and behavioral health care re-entry services and community programs and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA).   • Analyzes the development of technological improvement in security equipment as a key resource in this area for staff.
  • Supervises develops coordinates and provides training to departmental Emergency Response Teams; determines placement of new members on each team or the removal of team members.
  • Develops and maintains administrative regulations and the departmental Security plans that governs security and/or intelligence operations and equipment.
  • Reviews and coordinates institutional Emergency Response Plans to ensure thoroughness and uniformity.
  • Develops and coordinates written agreements with other agencies as part of the departmental Emergency Response Plans i.e. State Patrol National Guard police departments utility companies etc.



Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in criminal justice jail administration or a related behavioral science area and five years of experience in a custody/security managerial or administrative position within a correctional system of which at least three years experience is in a supervisory capacity OR nine years of experience in custody/security managerial or administrative position within a correctional system of which at least three years experience is in a supervisory capacity.

Preferred Qualifications: Extensive experience in managing or overseeing Emergency Response Teams within a correctional or law enforcement environment. Experience in developing and implementing institutional or agency-wide security procedures manuals or administrative regulations. Five or more years of progressive experience in correctional security operations with 2 or more years in a leadership or supervisory role.

Other: Must have valid drivers license. Applicant must pass a criminal background check. Applicants accepting the job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam and at a randomly announced time pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
