Job Description

The Application Engineer is a key contributor to the development implementation and validation of applications and machines that enhance the overall customer experience. Working closely with cross-functional teams the role will be pivotal in translating customer needs into innovative technical solutions that contribute to the differentiation and competitiveness of TOMRAs products and services. 

 

Primary Job Functions

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand customer requirements and pain points 
  • Translate customer needs into technical specifications and requirements for software applications and hardware improvements 
  • Design and develop software and system applications that align with the customer value proposition strategy 
  • Work with Software and AI team to develop AI models including Data labelling and model testing and refinement 
  • Implement solutions that enhance the user experience and contribute to the overall value proposition 
  • Ensure that applications seamlessly integrate with existing business processes and systems 
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement 
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including product managers marketing R&D and customer support escalations 
  • Provide technical support and expertise to enhance the overall value proposition 
  • Can work within a team environment or remotely to achieve tasks 
  • Promote a Safety first culture throughout the company our customers and our industry 

Qualifications :

About you:

  • Relevant Tertiary Degree (Engineering Maths Statistics Science or Similar) or a Diploma/Certificate in a Technical or Engineering field with extensive relevant industry experience  
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with spectroscopy and/or hyperspectral imaging including data acquisition analysis and interpretation
  • Proficiency in Python and Excel for data analysis
  • Experience in product management project management or product development 
  • Experience in the food industry or any other industry engaged in sensor technology would be advantageous 
  • Experience in testing and validation of software and hardware solutions 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication 
  • Demonstrated technical skills (mechanical electrical/electronics software networking and controls or similar) in at least one area 
  • Ability to build positive and effective relationships with key stakeholders 
  • Exposure to project management work and methodologies 
  • Basic analytical skills for producing information mainly from business systems Advanced skills preferred  
  • Attention to detail analytical dedicated flexible and able to work autonomously 

Travel:

  • Ability to travel to customer or international TOMRA sites for up to 30% of time 
  • Must be able to drive without restrictions and possess a valid Drivers License
  • Must be able to obtain a valid passport for travel

Work Environment:

  • Ability to be in the office 3 days a week when not travelling
  • Ability to work in Food processing plants farms cold storage facilities and outside in high/low temperatures
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime as requested

Physical Requirements: 

  • Able to perform frequent bending kneeling and standing and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Ability to distinguish between the full range of colours in the colour spectrum.
  • No major food allergies that would impede ability to work around or near food nuts fruits and vegetables.
