Job Description

Play a key role in enhancing the systems behind secure high-volume international travel. At ALTEN were supporting the delivery of next-generation automated border control technology across critical transport infrastructure in the UK. As a System Integration & Verification Engineer youll lead the integration and end-to-end testing of complex multi-technology platforms ensuring reliability security and performance at the frontline of national infrastructure. From design documentation to system trials your work will directly support smarter more secure border movement.

Key Details:

Location: On-site in Reading (4 days per week)
Security Clearance: Must be SC Clearable (5 Years in the UK minimum)
Experience Level: 5 years experience in Systems Engineering or Integration

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate software and hardware components across automated system platforms
  • Write and maintain structured system design documentation using VCRI templates
  • Conduct full lifecycle testing including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Derive and manage customer requirements using tools such as DOORS
  • Develop and execute detailed test plans including test case creation regression testing and scope definition
  • Contribute to the creation of user manuals and training documentation (desirable)

Qualifications :

Required Skills:

  • Strong background in systems integration system verification and V&V planning
  • Experience with DOORS and VCRI documentation
  • Hands-on delivery of FAT SAT and UAT across hardware/software systems
  • Skilled in test planning test case development and structured test execution
  • Ability to operate independently on complex integration tasks
  • Excellent communication and coordination with external stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors or Masters degree in Systems Software Electronics or a related engineering discipline
    OR a relevant technical military background with hands-on systems experience
  • Must be eligible for SC clearance (have lived in the UK for a minimum of 5 years) 

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with Palma Jira or similar test/project management tools
  • Experience in secure systems delivery automated control systems or border/security technologies
  • Exposure to hardware/software interfacing and compliance-driven environments
