Friends of Teach For Armenia (FoTFA) is a U.S.
-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to eliminate
educational inequity in Armenia and Artsakh. Through strategic fundraising donor engagement and
operational stewardship we mobilize resources in support of individuals and organizations that are
transforming education systems in the regionmost notably Teach For Armenia.
The Role: Head of Development & Operations
As a core member of the FoTFA leadership team the Head of Development & Operations will lead
all fundraising initiatives and oversee internal operations. Reporting directly to the CEO this role is
responsible for building and managing a robust donor pipeline strengthening key institutional
partnerships ensuring seamless financial and operational systems and serving as a vital link
between the U.S. and Armenia-based teams.
The ideal candidate is a strategic relationship-builder a systems thinker and a passionate advocate
for educational equity in Armenia.
Key Responsibilities
I. Fundraising Donor Strategy and External Relations (70% focus)
1. Strategic Fundraising & Pipeline Development
- Develop and execute a comprehensive annual and multiyear fundraising strategy to meetFoTFAs revenue goals.
- Build and manage a diverse donor portfolio including individuals foundations corporatesponsors and institutional funders.
- Design prospecting systems and research strategies to continuously expand the donorpipeline.
2. Donor Cultivation Stewardship & Engagement
- Lead donor cultivation and stewardship activities including personal outreach cultivationevents and recognition plans.
- Oversee donor communication touchpointsemails reports thank-you notesto deepenrelationships and increase retention.
- Partner with the CEO to engage the Board and key stakeholders in donor outreach.3. Grant Writing & Campaign Management
- Identify relevant grant opportunities prepare compelling proposals and ensure timelysubmissions.
- Develop and maintain a grant tracking system reporting calendar and proposal archive.
- Collaborate with the development team at Teach For Armenia to gather data impact metrics and compelling stories to inform U.S.-based campaigns and grant narratives.
4. Development Team Liaison (Armenia)
- Act as the primary liaison with the Armenia-based development and communications team.
- Ensure consistency and alignment of messaging donor reporting and fundraising prioritiesacross geographies.
- Coordinate joint campaigns marketing materials and donor reporting in collaboration with Armenia team leads.
II. Operations Financial Management and Governance (30% focus)
1. Operational Systems & Compliance
Oversee the daily operations of FoTFA including administration HR vendor relations and
donor database management.
Develop and refine systems for donor recordkeeping internal documentation and data
privacy.
Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations financial controls and grant obligations.
2. Budgeting & Financial Oversight
- Manage the organizations budget in collaboration with the CEO and accounting firm.
- Track income and expenses generate financial reports and maintain fiscal transparency.
- Oversee the timely and compliant transfer of funds to Teach For Armenia and other grantee
- partners.
3. Board Relations & Executive Support
- Prepare materials for Board meetings including strategic updates financial reports andfundraising dashboards.
- Coordinate Board communications scheduling and meeting logistics.
- Support the CEO in executing strategic priorities including governance best practices.
About You:
Qualifications & Profile
- RequiredBachelors degree in business nonprofit management public administration or related field
- (advanced degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in fundraising and nonprofit operationsincluding:
- Major gifts and donor stewardship
- Foundation/corporate grant development
- Budget management and compliance
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams or working across geographies/time zones.
- Proficiency with CRM tools (e.g. Salesforce Bloomerang) and productivity tools (Google
- Workspace Asana etc.).
- Deep alignment with FoTFAs mission and a passion for educational equity.
- Open to frequent travel for donor meetings across the U.S. with additional flexibility fortravel to Armenia and other locations as needed.
- PreferredPersonal or professional connection to the Armenian context.
- Armenian language skills a plus.
- Experience working with international or diaspora organizations.
