Job Description

Description

The Dimensional Planning Engineer follows a program from the beginning and then continue to support the assembly plant for the life of the vehicle line. Each engineer is assigned a specific assembly plant and associated stamping plant. All vehicle lines at those plants will be the responsibility of the engineer to manage.

Main responsibility is for all dimensional fixtures and metrology which is used by the plants to monitor the dimensions of the vehicle line in the body shop and stamping sub-assembly shops.



Responsibilities

What youll do:

  • Responsible to respond to future model milestone studies.
    • Interface with suppliers for quotes. Issue SOW
    • Interface with assembly and stamping plants for metrology needs. Verify metrology assumptions can allow the plants to deliver the control plan.
    • Interface with Manufacturing Engineering and Vehicle Line Specialist for program assumptions.
    • Interface with documentation group to ensure Assembly Flow Diagrams are correct for the fixtures being provided.
    • Ensure study includes budget for all fixture and equipment that the plants will need. Include budget for LD file development and DVA studies.
    • SPOC for responding to change requests
    • Verify timing for Part Coordination Fixture events is correct in VPP
  • Manage program checkbook.
    • Ensure program funding is in the correct line items in financial system.
    • Issue requisitions for suppliers
    • Work with purchasing to issue Purchase Orders
  • Delivery of fixtures and metrology
    • Ensure fixtures and metrology can meet program timing.
    • Follow fixtures through design build and install. Includes coordinating design reviews and build buyoffs. Ensure suppliers have proper CAD for designing fixtures.
    • Ensure fixtures are placed on the facilities layout in the proper location.
    • Coordinate getting parts for Repeatability and Reproducibility parts for Sheet Metal Functional build.
    • Resolve all fixture issues
    • Develop plan for CMM and Scanbox programs to support control plan and launch
    • Launch future metrology at the plants.
    • Gather Lessons Learned and drive back to suppliers and standards.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BSc Engineering (preferably Mechanical)
  • 2 years experience in the automotive manufacturing space preferably within body engineering
  • Knowledge and experience with product CAD (Catia/NX)
  • Knowledge and experience in quality operating systems processes and engineering deliverables
  • Leadership communication skills consistent with reporting out to Managers and Chief Engineers.
  • Travel required to support all Canada Mexico and US assembly locations
  • MS Office including MS Project
