Job Description

Position: Driver (Temporary Part-Time)

Location: Langley/Surrey/White Rock

Hours: 30 hours/week (must be available to work between 7am and 2pm M-F)

Salary: $24.46/hour

Start Date: ASAP


This position is a three-month contract and offers the possibility of an extension and/or may potentially lead to a permanent role.


We are looking for a Temporary Part-Time Driver to join our Sources Food Security team! This individual must have a Class 5 drivers license clean drivers abstract excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to lift minimum 50 lbs.

SOURCES is a community-based non-profit organization providing support and hope to communities in the Lower Mainland on Vancouver Island and across Northern BC. About Sources Food Security programs:

As part of Sources Food Security programs the Regional Food Hub rescues and redistributes food in Surrey Langley and White Rock. We redistribute food to numerous community agencies and partners who coordinate hunger relief programs including Sources Food Banks. We aim to prevent and reduce food waste promote food waste education and enhance food access and security in our community.


Description of Position:

Reporting to: Food Security Manager

General Responsibilities:

  • Represents Sources professionally and actively promotes its objectives to clients families the public other organizations government etc.
  • Ensures the maintenance of program standards policies and program guidelines.
  • Ensures all Occupational Health and Safety requirements are met.
  • Ensures the maintenance of Society policies and procedures (including personnel policies).
  • Participate in COA accreditation and quality improvement and evaluation processes.
  • Engages in ongoing learning and professional development related to Indigenous histories cultures and perspectives and applying this knowledge to the workplace.
  • Creates and maintains a safe and welcoming environment within the organization and addresses any instances of discrimination harassment or other forms of harmful behaviour that dont support the principles of diversity equity inclusion and belongingness.

Program Specific Responsibilities:

  • Driving either a transit van or 2-ton truck pick up food and goods from community businesses along designated route in White Rock Surrey and Langley adjusting as needed to meet the needs of our donors and partners.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with community businesses and partner agencies staff.
  • Work with management to maximize efficiency of the collection of food.
  • Deliver food and goods to Sources Food Banks and community partners.
  • Weigh and track all delivery weights and types of foods. Complete accurate reports for donations received and donations delivered on a daily basis.
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles and any other equipment (pallet jack hand trucks/dollies etc.) on a daily basis.
  • Perform vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections every day for vehicle maintenance and safety.
  • Fuel vehicles as needed at Sources approved locations.
  • Collect and report required information on fueling and maintenance of vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience driving box trucks and transit vans.
  • Ability to lift objects of 50 pounds and load them into vehicles.
  • Effectively utilize Office suite including Excel Word Outlook and central data systems.
  • Exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team as well as individually.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Drivers license and clean driving record (mandatory).
  • Enthusiasm and passion to address community hunger and food waste.
  • Knowledge of the noted communities and surrounding areas is an asset.
  • Current Food Safe certificate (Training may be accessed through Sources).
  • Forklift training certification (Training may be accessed through Sources).
  • Standard First Aid and CPR (Training may be accessed through Sources).
  • Clear Criminal Record Check (mandatory).
