Position: APS5/6 Junior Data Analyst
Location: Canberra ACT
Estimated Start Date: July 2025
Engagement Type: Labour hire
Duration: Approx. 12-month contract with potential to extend
Salary: APS5: $57.50 - $61.44 per hour plus 12% superannuation APS6: $63.40 - $71.29 per hour plus 12% superannuation
Security Clearance: Applicants must hold an Negative Vetting 2 clearance at time of application
Job Overview:
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Junior Data Analyst to join a high-profile government department in a fast-paced and strategic environment. This is a role where you will investigate and interpret multiple data sources to produce analytical reports that inform key readers on security events incidents and trends. This role is perfect for a high-performing and professional individual who has knowledge of Power BI and data visualisation as well as experience with MS Office.
Duties:
- Investigate and interpret multiple data sources to produce analytical reports that inform key readers on security events incidents and trends.
- Develop improve and manage reporting processes to ensure accurate complete and timely outputs and advice.
- Engage with various stakeholdersincluding senior executives to champion improved data and analytic capabilities.
- Support senior staff and other colleagues with data preparation visualisation and presentation on key security items tasks and priorities.
- Participate in change initiatives around data governance and other data processes to improve security operations and data management.
- Draft and present material to enable improved data and analytic capabilities.
- Analyse investigate and archive technical system data and notifications with the aim of identifying trends patterns and/or anomalies on installed countermeasures systems (e.g. Type 1/1A alarms Access control CCTV and other technical security systems).
- Other duties as required by Project Officer.
Skills and Experience:
Mandatory
- Experience in dealing with MS Outlook Excel and Word.
- Working knowledge of MS Power BI and data visualisation.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated capacity to participate in discussions that identify solutions to data system or procedural issues.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate (spoken and written) with colleagues in a way that supports day-to-day operations.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear and actionable insights for senior decision makers.
- Ability to assist senior staff and fellow team members to achieve organisational goals and objectives.
Desirable
- Degree in computer science statistics mathematics economics or equivalent work experience with data analytics.
- Prior experience working in or with Federal Government
- Working knowledge of MS Visio (for layout diagrams) HyperTerminal and IP networks.
- Exposure to analytical or programming software packages (e.g. Python Ruby Splunk etc.)
- Experience or exposure in dealing with Type 1 or Type 1A alarm systems Chubb software applications (e.g. Paragon and Configurator) or access control systems.
Eligibility:
Australian Citizenship is required.
Must hold a Negative Vetting 2 clearance at time of application.
Must be able to pass a criminal history check.
