Middle School Teacher of 6th Grade Mathematics
University School of Nashville seeks a creative and collaborative educator of young adolescents to teach mathematics and be part of an outstanding academic and advising team in grade six. The teacher will join a well-established middle school mathematics faculty and report to the Head of Middle School. Our middle school instructional specialist learning coordinator assistant heads and math department chair provide support and feedback to all math faculty members. We believe in the power of collaboration and teamwork and value each educators unique contributions to our community.
The middle school mathematics curriculum at University School of Nashville is about more than just numbers and formulas. Its a journey that helps students extend their ability to think and communicate mathematically. Our curriculum grounded in the standards of the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is accelerated allowing students to take Algebra 1 in their 8th-grade year. This unique approach encourages students to apply mathematical reasoning to increasingly complex problems and situations. If youre familiar with the Desmos Graphing Calculator Desmos Classroom Activities the Amplify/Desmos curriculum Illustrative Math curriculum or Open Up Resources curriculum thats a plus. Experience in differentiating instruction in the classroom to support all learners including those who need more support and enrichment is required for this role.
The successful candidate will have at least a bachelors degree in math or a related field a demonstrated ability to work effectively with students of varying learning styles and abilities a strong commitment to interdisciplinary learning in a team approach and an interest in and skill at collaborating with other adults in an educational setting. The School
University School of Nashville has a rich history that dates back to 1915 when George Peabody College for Teachers opened Peabody Demonstration School our predecessor. The school earned acclaim for its curriculum and faculty. In 1974 Peabody College announced plans to close PDS but a group of parents alumni students and teachers reconstituted and re-chartered the school as University School of Nashville. Today were an independent nonsectarian coeducational day school with nearly 1100 kindergarten through twelfth-grade students.
