Manager of PASS

Position Summary

Partnering for Access Success & Support (PASS) is dedicated to advancing Michigan State Universitys student success priorities throughout Student Affairs ensuring our institutions holistic framework is implemented throughout the various programs and initiatives facilitated within the division. Guided by MSUs Division of Student Affairs and in close collaboration with campus partners also PASS develops inclusive student-centered initiatives that empower students to thrive academically personally and socially across both curricular and co-curricular experiences.

PASS collaborates closely to integrate academic and student success initiatives through the division and in collaboration with campus partners. This unit is essential in advancing the divisions strategic priorities by driving long-term student affairs initiatives that align with the institutions student success mission data-informed goals and the needs of a diverse student body. The Manager focuses on enhancing student success through partnerships research-based initiatives and comprehensive support services that connect academic and co-curricular engagement.

  • Develop with Student Affairs leadership a long-term highly collaborative divisional student success strategic plan aligning goals with the institutions mission data and strategic priorities with campus partners for student success.
  • Develop research driven initiatives by identifying areas where holistic success is closely tied to co-curricular engagement student well-being and intellectual growth and development.
  • Utilize a framework of equity and inclusion in all aspects of their day-to-day work. Promote access through the identification and removal of barriers cultivate an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Supervise the operations of the theme-based Living and Learning housing options for students addressing opportunity gaps in collaboration with academic and residential partners to provide a holistic and inclusive learning environment.
  • Develop a comprehensive living learning curriculum outlining key objectives instructional strategies assessment methods and resources ensuring learning outcomes aligns with the mission of Student Affairs and institutional data and strategic priorities that supports the diverse learning needs of students across academic social and personal development dimensions.
  • Onboard and supervise staff while conducting regular performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with academic departments and faculty to integrate academic components and high-impact practices for PASS fostering interdisciplinary learning and academic success.
  • Foster and sustain collaborative relationships with colleges and act as the primary liaison for the colleges academic units and the Provosts Office in the development of program initiatives and student learning outcomes.
  • Establish relationships and serve as a direct contact for colleges and the Provost Office.
  • Serve on various Campus wide student success committees and task forces as assigned by the Vice President of Student Affairs.
  • Serve as an official liaison on matters related to Living and Learning for students faculty staff and administrators.
  • Act as a liaison for the University Innovation Alliance by spearheading student success initiatives for campus in partnership with other UIA institutions. Engage in meetings conferences and contribute to the Student Success Innovation Lab.
  • Develop departmental assessments strategies that align with institutional metrics to further support and develop students within transition programs and throughout the division that enhance student support engagement and institutional goals.
  • Develop and collaborate with academic and student affairs partners on AI-related research projects that advance knowledge in the field of education and student success.
  • Oversee the development implementation and evaluation of AI-driven projects aimed at improving student success outcomes and student affairs operations.
  • Manage and oversee the budget ensuring effective allocation of resources tracking expenditures and maintaining financial compliance to support department goals and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with departments such as the Office of Undergraduate Education Institutional Diversity Inclusion Residential Housing Services Enrollment management University Health and Well-being individual colleges and other campus units to support unit objectives and advance the goals of the Universitys strategic plan.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which would normally be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelors degree work such as a masters in higher education administration student affairs counseling psychology social work or a related field; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in student affairs programs and services an understanding of the formal and informal organizational structures academic governance procedures and informal organization structures specific to the university computer technology training and development programs designing and developing research projects and in supervising staff and office operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Masters or PhD in higher education administration student affairs counseling psychology social work or a related field; Minimum of ten(10) years of experience in student affairs or related field with demonstrated experience in leadership strategic planning and program development;Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills with a commitment to diversity equity and inclusion;Knowledge of current trends and best practices student development theory and academic integration;Experience supervising and developing professional staff managing budgets and fostering a culture of student success and engagement;Excellent written and verbal communication skills;Computer skills to include Microsoft office and Qualtrics for departmental reporting
