An opportunity to shape the trajectory of a disruptive MedTech innovation at the earliest stage with a focus on clinical excellence and investor appeal.
The Medical Director will serve as a strategic medical affairs consultant for a pre-seed MedTech startup developing a Class II medical device. This pivotal freelance role does not require a medical degree but demands expertise in MedTech product launches or significant experience in life science funding (VC or grant).
Responsibilities
Medical Affairs Leadership
o Develop and refine the medical positioning and value proposition of the device for both clinical and investor audiences.
o Advise on clinical development plans including study design endpoints and evidence generation to support regulatory submissions and market entry.
o Ensure all medical claims and communications are scientifically robust and compliant with relevant regulations for Class II devices.
Launch Strategy
o Advise on the design and execution of pilot studies clinical partnerships and post-market surveillance plans.
o Guide the team through regulatory pathways for Class II medical devices including CE marking and/or FDA 510(k) processes as applicable.
o Collaborate with R&D and the executive team to align clinical and medical strategies for a successful launch.
Funding & Investor Support
o Assist in preparing and presenting medical and clinical narratives for grant applications VC pitches and investor meetings.
o Leverage industry knowledge to identify and connect with potential investors KOLs and clinical partners.
o Provide strategic input on business model go-to-market and scalability from a medical and regulatory perspective.
Stakeholder Engagement
o Build relationships with key opinion leaders healthcare professionals and potential clinical partners.
o Represent the company at relevant scientific investor and industry events.
Requirements
Demonstrable experience in medical device launch or significant experience in life science funding (VC/grant) with a strong understanding of medical affairs.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex clinical concepts for diverse stakeholders.
Strong network within the medtech clinical or investor communities.
Able to work with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced startup environment.
Desirable Requirements
Proven ability to position medical devices for both clinical and investor audiences.
Deep understanding of regulatory requirements for Class II medical devices in UK and European markets.
Experience supporting early-stage startups preferably at pre-seed or seed stage.
Track record of successful grant or VC fundraising for medical technologies.
Reporting & Collaboration
The Medical Director will report directly to the CEO. The consultant will play a key advisory role shaping the medical and clinical strategy to maximize the startup s credibility regulatory readiness and funding potential.
