Position Summary
Wecare Medical Specialty Group is seeking a meticulous experienced and self-motivated Policy Writer to join our growing team. The Policy Writer will be responsible for developing reviewing updating and maintaining a comprehensive set of clinical and administrative policies and procedures. This role is critical in ensuring our organization operates in compliance with all applicable healthcare laws regulations and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of healthcare operations regulatory requirements and exceptional writing and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Development & Drafting:
Research write and edit clear concise and accurate policies procedures and related documents for various departments including clinical operations patient care billing HR IT and compliance.
Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) department heads legal counsel and senior management to gather necessary information and ensure policies reflect current practices and regulatory requirements.
Translate complex regulatory and legal language into easily understandable and actionable policies and procedures.
Policy Review & Updates:
Establish and manage a systematic review cycle for all existing policies and procedures to ensure they remain current relevant and effective.
Monitor changes in federal state and local healthcare laws and regulations (e.g. HIPAA HITECH CMS OSHA state-specific medical board requirements) and update policies accordingly.
Incorporate feedback from internal stakeholders and quality assurance reviews into policy revisions.
Policy Management & Dissemination:
Maintain an organized and accessible central repository for all organizational policies and procedures.
Develop and implement effective methods for communicating new and revised policies to all relevant staff members.
Assist in the development of training materials related to new or updated policies.
Track policy acknowledgment and compliance.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
Support internal and external audit processes by providing relevant policy documentation and expertise.
Assist in identifying potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives by ensuring policies support best practices and high standards of care.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with the Compliance Department Legal Department Clinical Leadership Human Resources and other departments to ensure alignment and consistency in policy application.
Serve as a resource for staff regarding policy interpretation and application.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration Health Information Management English Journalism Law Public Health or a related field is required.
Masters degree or relevant certifications (e.g. CHC CCEP CPCO) are a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in policy writing technical writing or a similar role preferably within a healthcare setting (hospital clinic health system or managed care organization).
Demonstrable experience in researching and interpreting healthcare regulations and translating them into operational policies.
Experience with policy management software is an advantage.
Skills & Knowledge:
Exceptional writing editing and proofreading skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong understanding of healthcare terminology operations and regulatory landscape (including HIPAA Stark Law Anti-Kickback Statute CMS conditions of participation etc.).
Excellent research analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook SharePoint).
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a remote work environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
High degree of integrity and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Work Authorization Requirements
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
U.S. Citizenship or a valid U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) is required for this position.
