Job Description

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree and either:
    • A) 6 months experience as Academic Advisor I at GSU (University Advisement Center or other GSU advising department) or
    • B) 3 years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with student information systems and data analysis tools (e.g. Banner Navigate Reporting Systems).

The College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia State University is seeking to hire an experiencedAcademic Advisor II.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Academic Advisor II will perform all duties of a full-service professional academic advisor includingfacilitating academic program development advising students and interpreting and implementinguniversity policies and procedures within the Office of Graduate Services. They will provide admissionssupport to department graduate directors for graduate enrollment management course substitutionspetitions and permissions and support advisement-related events and data needs from the Academic Advisor II will be proficient in Microsoft Word Excel and Banner and haveexperience with programs such as Argos Degree Works and Navigate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Evaluates and maintains student records for degree requirements.
  • Monitors student registration academic performance and progress.
  • Communicates with students about course scheduling requirements and resources.
  • Tracks retention progression and graduation of students.
  • Provides administrative support for course substitutions petitions and permissions.
  • Process registration permissions in Banner.
  • Supports advisement events and data needs.
  • Mentors and trains staff; coordinates advisement training and special programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
