Job Description

ALP Instructor


Overview:

Under the direction of the Continuing Education Officer provides instruction to Adult learners.

Role and Responsibilities:

Knowledge of objectives set forth in the Literacy and Basic Skills Guidelines (Ministry of Labour Training and Skills Development). Knowledge of Adult Education and Adult Literacy Programs education environment and relevant Board policies and procedures; organization and time management skills required to prioritize work and juggle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities with short timelines; interpersonal and communication skills required to exchange and clarify information; oral communication and listening skills required for understanding and communicating effectively with diverse communities; ability to understand and respond to inquiries using tact diplomacy and discretion when dealing with colleagues and students; presentation skills for delivering instruction; and ability to develop a classroom atmosphere of respect trust and cooperation.

This knowledge would normally be obtained through completion of a Literacy Practitioner Training course from a recognized college or university; or post-secondary education and LBS instructional experience; or post-secondary education and volunteer experience in a LBS program; or Ontario Teaching Certification.

Instructors in the Adaptive Learning Program require specialized courses for teaching adults with developmental disabilities.

Pay Expectations:

$37.04 to $46.84 per hour
