Job Description
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of History and Physical Examination (H and P) oversees the functionality training and faculty and student success in relation to History and Physical Examination. The Director ensures all faculty members are well versed and experienced in all phases of history and physical examination and have achieved a specific level of expertise so to ensure continuity of education and overall student success. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include directing the entirety of the H and P program including but not limited to general program oversight and development standardization of faculty and standardized patients teaching in the H and P course grading assignments advising medical students ensuring student success and contributing to the mission of the college.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following are a list of Academic Exercises that may be required as a member of the Faculty from time to time:
- Under the leadership of the Associate Dean and in cooperation with other Directors and faculty be responsible for the COM History and Physical curricular program as well as those components of history and physical education that occur in the COM;
- Serve as the Director providing general oversight standardization and direction to all faculty and standardized patients so to teach courses in Physical Diagnosis and in related areas which shall include both lecture and laboratory activities as may be assigned from time to time;
- Oversee the direction and coordination of the H and P program by meeting with classes according to the published schedule;
- Evaluate all students who are in each lecture class and each laboratory assigned;
- Contribute to the academic development of LECOMs curriculum by directing revamping and assisting in the ongoing development of the Physical Diagnosis Course lecture materials and correlated exam questions bibliographies and other materials related to the courses and laboratories as assigned;
- Train faculty members and serve as an individual faculty member so to provide academic advice and support to LECOMs students through regularly scheduled and published office hours and also by appointment;
- Provide oversight and direction so to facilitate History and Physical Examination Lab;
- Grade and provide feedback to students on submitted written assignments;
- Serve as Director and primary examiner in practical examinations;
- Present lectures along areas of expertise;
- Assist with remediating students and ensuring overall student success;
- Help to identify students that are discovered to be weak in various areas and provide academic support;
- Assess student faculty and standardized patient performance;
- Coordinate faculty and standardized patient training;
- Faculty member will contribute and be responsible for overall student success including but not limited to advising and student outcomes;
- Faculty member will contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM embodying the essence of Osteopathic Principles and Practices by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction;
- Faculty member will participate in scholarly activity so to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;
- Faculty member will commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community including but not limited to serving on Boards participating in community fundraisers and overall outreach;
- Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the Associate Dean and/or his/her designee; and
- Accept other duties assigned/needed for the Institutions needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and experience equivalent to: D.O. or M.D. degree required with teaching experience in academia with two to five (2-5) years or more of experience practicing preferred.
