The Role

Are you an experienced environmental consultant ready to dive deeper into marine and offshore project delivery GHD Advisory is seeking a Marine Consents Specialist to join our expert team delivering high-impact solutions to clients in the marine environment sector.

This is a project-focused role where youll lead or support environmental permitting and consent activities for major offshore developmentsincluding offshore wind and other marine infrastructure. Youll bring a strong foundation in environmental legislation combined with practical experience in preparing and managing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) permitting applications and regulatory engagement.

As part of a growing business unit this role also offers the opportunity to influence strategic growth mentor junior staff and help expand our footprint in the marine consents spaceboth in the UK and globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Manager or technical lead on environmental permitting aspects of marine and offshore projects.
  • Provide strategic advice and technical support to internal teams and clients during all project stages including early planning and pre-application phases.
  • Lead or contribute to the delivery of marine EIAs permitting documentation and environmental and social due diligence assessments.
  • Represent GHD in internal technical working groups and stakeholder engagements with regulators clients and industry partners.
  • Support the development of bids and proposals acting as a subject matter expert to help win and shape new business opportunities.
  • Prepare and deliver concise high-quality reports presentations and briefings tailored to client and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent GHD at industry events conferences and client forums to build relationships and stay informed of emerging trends.

Key Skills & Experience Required

  • A Bachelors degree or higher in Environmental Science or a related discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in marine environmental consulting with a strong focus on consents permitting or regulatory compliance.
  • Proven track record delivering environmental impact assessments and consenting strategies ideally including DCO (Development Consent Order) applications or equivalent.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK environmental legislation relevant to offshore infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with international consenting for marine or offshore wind projects is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with environmental and social risk management frameworks (e.g. IFC Performance Standards) is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong technical writing data interpretation and project coordination capabilities.
  • Comfortable working across diverse teams and managing complex multi-disciplinary projects.

Working Location

This is a hybrid role with an expectation of an average of 2 days per week working at one of our offices in London Manchester Chester Guildford or Newcastle.
