Multiple-Choice Tested Titles with Keyboarding Assessment:

  • Walk-in candidates may be accepted at the discretion of the testing center if space is available; scheduled applicants will receive priority when testing. Unscheduled applicants (walk-ins) must have completed an online application prior to arrival or may complete an online application in a Department of Personnel office prior to the beginning of the testing session; allow at least 20 minutes.

complex technical accounting work in maintaining a complete set of general account books relative to returned checks; receives calculates and verifies returned checks; maintains automated account ledgers on all returned checks; makes adjustments as required; prepares monthly adjustment sheets; provides accounting information to Bookkeeping section; prepares monthly financial reports for supervisor; prepares write-of reversal adjustment sheets; releases holds or stops on accounts that have been closed; generates letters to collect or refund monies; assists the general public concerning account status; trains and assists new employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Receives returned checks from the State Treasurers Office Drivers Facility Audit Section and Sales Analysis Section; calculates and verifies that amount of Treasurers totals are correct; reports any discrepancies to the supervisor; performs research to identify that there is a valid drivers license which will enable the Department to tag or cancel an individuals drivers license; maintains automated account ledger on all returned checks (statewide); makes adjustments as required for monies collected; zeroes out accounts.
  • Prepares adjustment sheets as needed for Incorrect charges to receive credit from the Treasurers Office; provides accounting information to the Bookkeeping section on debits credits adjustments and reversals to maintain a correct balance on this statewide operation.
  • Prepares write-off reversal adjustment sheet for incorrect charges to receive credit from the departments bookkeeping section; re-opens accounts that have been written-off when payment has been received.
  • Releases holds or stops on vehicle registrations and/or drivers licenses of individuals who have written bad checks by performing data entry functions; generates letters to collect remaining money if not all money was collected or to issue a refund if too much money was collected.
  • Assists the general public at the section window and by telephone concerning account status; trains and assists new employees as required.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:

Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years college and one year of technical accounting experience or four years of related clerical bookkeeping experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Requires extensive knowledge of accounting techniques.
  • Requires working knowledge of office methods procedures and the operation of office accounting machines and equipment.
  • Requires elementary knowledge of State accounting laws regulations and procedures.
  • Requires ability to supervise and train a small staff of technical and clerical in the maintenance of accounting records and verify and processing of financial documents.
  • Requires ability to apply established accounting methods practices and techniques.
