The Bureau of Health Improvement and Wellness (BHIW) is comprised of programs which address prevention and improved health outcomes for Ohioans across the lifespan. BHIW includes programs that address chronic diseases prevent and reduce injuries promote access to health care and reduce health disparities. Program initiatives include the promotion of healthy eating and active living as well as the prevention of chronic diseases tobacco use child injuries sexual assault domestic violence and drug overdoses.

What Youll Do:

The Bureau of Health Improvement and Wellness (BHIW) is seeking a dedicated Epidemiology Investigation Supervisor to plan implement and manage comprehensive statewide epidemiological surveillance programs/systems for the Violence & Injury Prevention Section. This position will also:

  • Monitors and evaluates the distribution of injuries and associated risk behaviors in Ohio
  • Works with local health departments and stakeholders to provide ongoing assessment and planning for injury prevention
  • Assists local health departments in communicating injury assessment and prevention strategies
  • Develops policies and procedures to maximize the effectiveness of surveillance and epidemiological data
  • Supervises epidemiologic and research staff involved in data collection analysis and community assessment activities
  • Oversees the routine collection and analysis of data to generate hypotheses and develop conclusions regarding intentional and unintentional injuries
  • Plans organizes and directs epidemiologic studies including data dissemination
  • Develops and prepares proposals to obtain funding for epidemiologic investigations and injury/risk behavior assessment
  • Serves as a lead or supports grant management for injury prevention initiatives
  • Acts as a liaison between ODH other government agencies and local community groups
  • Obtains and communicates results of epidemiologic investigations to facilitate data-driven decision making
  • Provides consultation training and presentations to agency personnel medical community and the public

Unless required by legislation the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 14 Step 1 of the Exempt Pay Range Schedule ($37.53 per hour) with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($39.67) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter
