SAFETY INSPECTOR WATER UTILITIES

@Orchard has been retained by a leading Civil Engineering firm with a contract supporting a water utility in New Jersey to find experienced Safety Inspectors. In this position you will play a key role in safeguarding work on crucial utility infrastructure projects across Southern New Jersey. Your expertise will be instrumental in fostering a proactive safety culture and ensuring that every member of our clients team returns home safely at the end of the day. This is more than a job; its an opportunity to make a tangible impact on the safety and success of vital community projects.

What Youll Do:

As a Safety Inspector you will be the on-site authority for all safety-related matters. Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting comprehensive safety inspections on active construction sites for water sewer and electrical utility systems.
  • Proactively identifying potential hazards and implementing effective control measures to mitigate risks.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to all local state and federal safety regulations including OSHAs Construction Industry Regulations (29 CFR Part 1926).
  • Delivering engaging and informative toolbox talks and on-site training to empower workers with the latest safety best practices.
  • Reviewing and assessing Job Hazard Analyses Lifting Plans and Hot Work permits to guarantee compliance and safety.
  • Overseeing critical safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and Confined Space entry.
  • Collaborating closely with project teams to champion safety initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
  • Preparing and delivering detailed accurate and timely safety reports to stakeholders including New Jersey American Water (NJAW).

What Youll Bring:

We are seeking candidates with a proven track record of excellence in construction safety. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Certifications & Licenses:
    • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification (minimum)
    • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Experience & Knowledge:
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in safety inspections within the utility construction industry.
    • In-depth knowledge of the safety risks and best practices associated with the installation of water mains sewer systems and electrical infrastructure.
    • A strong understanding of safety standards related to production environments.
    • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with project teams to enhance safety performance.
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • An unwavering attention to detail with a sharp focus on safety compliance.
    • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects.
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate findings and ensure team-wide understanding of safety requirements.
    • The ability to confidently guide and mentor workers on safety best practices.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities to identify and rectify safety concerns swiftly.
    • Proficiency in conducting Job Observations and providing constructive feedback.

What to Expect on the Job:

This role requires a hands-on presence in active construction environments. You should be prepared to:

  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions from summer heat to winter snow while strictly adhering to safety protocols.
  • Navigate active construction sites with the constant presence of heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to mitigate risks associated with dust noise and other environmental factors.
  • Work confidently and safely at heights in trenches and in other potentially high-risk areas ensuring all protective measures are in place.

Salary Range: Actual compensation range will be determined upon experience and qualification but will be in the range $70000-$87000 p.a. Our client provides comprehensive benefits including Health Dental Vision 401k PTO and Tuition reimbursement.
